Hi all,

I have an Intel D845GLVA motherboard with a Pentium 4 2.0 GHz processor currently installed and working.

I am looking for specific information on which Intel processors fit this board and can be dropped-in as a performance upgrade? I am not experienced at determining this (newbie).

For example, I am not entirely sure if this mobo is "Socket 478" and 400 MHz FSB? I also am not sure what is the recommended or top speed GHz Pentium 4 that will work as a drop-in replacement for what I currently have. I also don't know if a Pentium "HT" processor will work, etc.

I am looking for known specific recommendations that will work with the Intel D845GLVA motherboard. Money is tight.

Thank you!
Probably 533/400 FSB CPU's will work. I haven't seen any "533 only" or "400 only" mobos.

I'll look it up.
Welcome to the forums btw. Fill in your system specs in the "User CP" (up top ) so you don't have to type in your computer specs everytime.
Guess I was wrong, and a first time for everything.
Only 400Mhz FSB processors, I guess...You won't really get that far with only 400Mhz FSB processors, really...
You could get a cheap mobo, since you probably won't be OCing since you plan on keeping that mobo (it cant...), for $40 or $50 or so, and pick up a 533/800FSB Pentium 4....
mobo page

**EDIT**
the only 478 400 cpu that newegg has is a 1.6GHz Celeron
you may be out of luck with that mobo

The Intel website: http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/va/va_proc.htm says that the fastest Pentium 4 processor the Intel mobo D845GLVA will support is a Pentium 4 2.6 GHz (512 KB cache). An Intel "Specs" page linked from there says "Hyperthreading is not supported" for the Intel D845GLVA board.

I see Pentium 4 2.6 GHz processors selling on ebay for reasonable prices so I will watch ebay.

Thank you for your help,
