what is stepping and revision? Nobody has ever given me a straight answer!
You find the stepping printed on the IHS of the CPU. It's basically a jumble of code that, if read correctly, tells you when the CPU was made. Generally processors with similar steppings will be able to overclock about the same.

It's also mythed to include some info about what the CPU could have been made into. I.E., it could have been a 3700+ SD, but was manufactured as a venice 3000+. Therefore, it should be able to clock to SD speeds and higher.

thank you....good to know
Normaly if you download 3Dmark05, and veiw the details it will tell you what your CPU's core was actualy built off of. For example in the picture bellow, Ive got the Pentium D 820 which is 2.8 stock but the 2 cores are based off of a 3.8. It says the same thing for my P4 2.4c, stock is 2.4ghz, but the core was based off a 3.6 core.

If you look on the IHS of the processor you will see a batch number such as slz93 Malay

Also, if you look at the other side for the capacitors (Caps). Count them. Are there 12 or 30? If there are 30 then you have an Extreme Edition fab model processor that has a somewhat lower VID and are seen to overclock higher due to lower voltage requirements.
