My buddy has these and they sound amazing.

Sorry about the audio card, not really knowledgeable in that area.

Yes, I have heard those, but I would prefur 2.1...those are in my mind, but not quite what I am looking for as far as the setup because I can't run a surround system in my room because I have a smaller room and it is just not what I would like...

that changes things...

In that case... I have these for my laptop with a soundcard and they are great. A little pricier, but I can vouch for the sound quality:

Ok...I think I narrowed it down to the Z-2300 and the Klipsch that BigAl recommened...I will take more suggestions for sure...just if you could help with those two it would be nice...
The Klipsch Promedias are a good set, and if you can find an open box at Bestbuy they're under your budget of $100 (that's how I got mine). You'll need a 3.5mm to RCA's adapter for them to hook up to your Xbox though. For the purpose of disclosure, I'm not a speakers kind of guy, headphones are more my bag. Perhaps one of the more knowledgeable speaker people around here can recommend you something better.

As for a soundcard, you could watch newegg for an openbox deal on an Asus Xonar D1/DX.
Thanks for the help for now...I need to go to bed...so tired...I will bump this thread tomorrow if I need more help. I just am deciding between Z2300 and Klipsch ProMedia now...Thanks for all the help and hopefully will be on OCN more often...great place with a great group of people. Thanks!
I wouldn't recommend the X-540s, my friend went through two sets in about 2 years, and he kept having issues with stuff melting inside the controller and messing up his audio. He ended up buying G51s and is happy ever since. I myself own a Z5500 and love, and if the Z2300 si any close to that then I'd tell you to get that.
i am currently using the klipsch 2.1 promedia's and i think they are lacking. they have plenty of power but they never sound very crisp and detailed to me. if anything, they are too bass-heavy. i have the bass throttled way back and still think they were too tubby. i gave them to my dad after i graduated college and am now running them again. he thought they didn't sound that great, and he is a hardcore audiophile. another thing i don't like is the volume and bass controls on the speaker. every time i adjust either of the two volumes, i get a nasty, scratchy feedback. could be faulty hardware, or just cheap. either way, i don't recommend the klipsch speakers. go with the logitech's.
I've found my Logitech Z-2300s for $100. I definitely do not regret it; at 1/4 volume my ears literally hurt from how loud the gunshots are in BF2, and the sound through my X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty is very crisp.

BUMP -- See EDIT Question for my last question. Thanks!
I also recommend the Klipsh Pro Media 2.1 set. Superb. Dont ever go for a 5.1 setup with a budget of $100...
