So I recently upgraded my GTX 120 -> a EVGA GTX 980 SC..... but now I am at a cross roads....

here is my list of wants and I would like some input on the best corse of action...

Currently I am on a 2009 Mac pro with Dual Xeons at 2.26mhz the stock processors, 8GB 1033mhz ECC memory....

So this is my list of upgrades just need the best order...

1.) Send 980 to Mac Vid Cards to be flashed and upgraded to unlock the pci 2.0 and EFI (right now the card is nice but not as fast as i expected... probably due to the lack of support without mac vids upgrades)
2.) Upgrade to dual X5675s or other such 6 core processors
3.) Upgrade to at least 16gb DDR 3 1333mhz ECC memory
4.) Add second SSD for boot camp

So far my system runs decently but I am torn between getting more from my vid card or getting the new processors.....
any input would be greatly appreciated....

Thanks

It all depends on what you use the computer for...It seems that the best option would be option 1. if you only game (but since you are using MAC doubt that is the case). If you are running heavily threaded apps then 2. would be best option, option 3 would only be a viable choice if you are seeing slow downs, 8gb is enough for most programs (if you are running bigger editing programs then yes 16gb with the more powerful xeons would be the best choice), option 4 - well if you use windows and dont have an SSD already then go for it it would probably be the cheapest option (depends on size). Like mentioned it all depends on what you use your computer for.

Use it to game and as a media server.... Mostly encoding videos for apple tv.... so I guess I will be shipping the card off to MacVids..... Just wish it was cheaper.... Will cost me close to 300 Canadian..... I hate exchange rates......

As outlaw said, it really depends what it is used for. Right now the least expensive thing to do is to take care of the video card. The next thing would be the CPUs. RAM will not net you too much of a gain to be really worth it in my opinion and can be done at any time.
