OK, I was going to wait for my RMA'd DFI, but I went ahead and bought a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P. I am planning to run my current card for the next 2 weeks and after that, buy something newer.

I am torn between 4830 xfire and a single 4870. With the recent rumors of price drops etc., what brand and model set-up would give me the best bang for buck in the next 2 weeks?

A single 4870 should be able to handle that res just fine. Go with a single 4870 for now then crossfire later on. Check out the XFX 4870's.

4830 CF is pretty close to 4870. The price of 2x 4830 is about the same as one 4870. How about this? Once you get the UD3P, you will find it can do what DFI can do but much easiler.

I was also unsure of the 512mb vs 1gb thing. I am pretty sure the 1 gb is a waste at my res. The only other reason I wanted to get the 4830's was because I have never had dual GPU's. At the same time, I would most likely water cool one card, but stick with air if I went 2. That would have an effect on OCing, so in the end, one water cooled 4870 may be better.

I think 4830cf is faster than a 4870 based purely on the theory that the more SP's the better (some ppl in OCN are actually doing tests about it). But yeah, 1 water cooled 4870 may be better and less of a headache especially when it comes to drivers.
