Alright, seeing as many of us have been gaming since the early 90's (or earlier), I figured I would post a thread containing what we think are the best video game series (as in more than one game) are of all time. This will not be a poll-style, as it is a matter of opinion. So, I would ask what the series is, what your favorite installment of the series is, and what platform it was(is) on. I'll kick things off with my favorites (in no particular order). Also, feel free to post why you said what you did.

1. Myst Series: PC/Playstation/XBOX. Myst III: Exile
I'm a Myst nut. I've played every version except for Myst Masterpiece and RealMyst. I own all of the versions except for Myst, which I lost several years ago. I feel that it just defined the next era of graphics and sound, and has been pretty polished throughout its entire life-span.
2. Final Fantasy Series: Playstation/Gameboy/PC. Final Fantasy IX
I've only played a few of the FF series, those including FFIV, FFIX, and FFX. However, I love RPG-style games, and have always liked the plot of each game that I played. They have always had a good soundtrack, and usually had top-notch graphics for their time.
3. Age of Empires: PC/Gameboy. Age of Empires II: The Conquerors
This has been the standard for RTS games for years, and I feel that this series has always been enjoyable. While Age of Mythology was a bit goofy, it was still a good game, and both it and AOEIII have very nice graphics. Also, it is one of the few games that is never completely beaten, as it's hard to play every single combination of game style.
4. Gran Turismo Series: Playstation. Gran Turismo 4
The GT series has probably been one of the best racing series of all time, boasting life-like driving and generally good graphics. It is one game in which you actually must learn to drive, unlike games like Test Drive and the Need for Speed series. Not to diss NFS, but I've always found GT to be more enjoyable from a gameplay perspective. I enjoy playing the classic NFS games like number III, but GT has always found a spot in my heart for being much more smooth and polished.

EDIT: Just realized that I accidentally placed this in the PC games section. If the mods disapprove, could they please move it to the proper forum?

Three words: Sonic the Hedgehog.

My favorite has to be Sonic 3 (and Knuckles) for the Genesis. It is the best game I have ever played that I still play on a regular basis. It isn't just a one time fad that is good for a week or two. It was good back when it was the newest game and it's good now. As for other series' that are good; Super Mario 1, 2, and 3 for the NES, and the Street Fighter series, but those are for arcades, same with the Metal Slug series.

FINAL FANTASY

I believe that Final Fantasy games, with the exception of FFXI and possible FFX-2; have something in them that no other RPG game has been able to capture. Final Fantasy is BY FAR the #1 series in my gaming book.

Arc The Lad

Few people have even heard of Arc the Lad; quite a shame since I think they were incredible games; good plot, excellent gameplay. The only one I didn't like was Monster Arena; but it wasn't really classified as game in the sense that there was purposely no fight, it was just a battle arena.

Nothing can beat Zelda and Mario.

I mean these 2 series have defined a generation of gamers that grew up in the 80's. What other series have been transferred to 4 different generations of console platforms and countless handheld platforms? The first video game I ever played was Super Mario Bros. when I was 5 years old and the rest is history.

Vampire The Masquerade : Redemption was the best game i've ever played. Unfortunately I cant say the same for Vampire The Masquerade : Bloodlines

Beside that NFS & Colin Mcrae Rally series always been great in racing games, Quake/Doom best fps series. I dont play much adventure games but back in the Monkey Island was a tad fun with Gybrush Threepwood. Battlefield series been the best multiplayer action/fps games for me i dont even think of playin cs anymore. Starcraft was the only strategy game i've played but nowadays Warhammer looks quite good tho.

Well I have two:

1. I'd hold the box of Half-Life 2 and tell you, "This is the Holy Grail." Not a game has ever since come with such potential. The Source Engine is, IMO, revolutionary. But the game itself is unique and sets itself from bland FPS games in almost every way. They pack in all these little fun missions and things to do such as the Gravity Gun, squads, controlling antlions, and many other things in the envirionment such as turrets, and even gravity. Unlike the other games which is usually shoot, find, and kill, Half-Life 2 even brings your tactics into question, upon other things. Truly, Half-Life 2 is a game to remember.

2. If there could ever be a real virtual world, it'd be called "Civilization." The way Firaxis Games design their games to be both fun and educational is what really tops it off. That, and with the practically infinite choices you can do, it's much more fun than other games where they are practically straightforward. With Civilization, choices make or break your civilization. What sets this game apart from any other is that this is a game based on almost all of civilized history, spanning from 3000 B.C. to the slight future of today. To turn the history of civilizations into a video game is by far, genius.

RPG - Ultima
Every RPG you guys have ever played owes something to Ultima, almost every RPG convention you now expect was done in Ultima first. I'm not sure which one I like the best. Ultima 5 was massive, introduced the Underworld concept, and had truly memorable villains (the Shadowlords), and was the last Ultima on the original Apple ][ platform; but some consider it too combat heavy. Ultima 6 was the last Ultima that used the classic style adopted since U2, and it looked great in VGA on the 80286 PC. And then there was Underworld, which was one of the first true 3D games and was a fantastic RPG to boot. One of those three, for sure.

Adventure - Zork I-III and Enchanter/Spellbreaker/Sorcerer
The granddaddy of them all, baby. I liked these so much that I used to write my own clones in Applesoft Basic. The most memorable part for me, I think it was in Spellbreaker, was having a map and a magic pencil that erased and drew real walls; and you had to erase and redraw the cavern you were in in X number of steps to reach the "treasure" (I forget what it even was) and get back out again. Very clever.

Flight - X-Wing
No question, no other action game drew me in like X-Wing. Full 3D soace combat sim on a 25Mhz 80486? Are you kidding me? This bad boy is long overdue for a remake with modern technology. Most folks seemed to prefer Tie-Fighter, but not me.

FPS - Doom
Sure, HL2 is great. But no FPS has ever made me jump and scream in my seat the way Doom and Doom 2 did back in the day.

Platformer - Mario
And Super Mario 64 is king of them all.

Sports - Tiger Woods
Only because its the only one I keep playing year after year. Although admittedly I'm beginning to get tired of it.

Fallout 2 -PC (can you say anything has ever come close? -really?)
Ultima 3 -PC (the world was HUGE! at the time)
Rampart -Arcade (I'd own a Lambo had I not dumped so many quarters...)
Diablo II - but hate it now... -PC (no game has sucked up so many valuable hours)
Doom -PC (only game to have really shocked me)
Silent Hunter III -PC (has everything I like in a game except the bits fallout 2 has)

I'll go off the beaten path and say the Thief series is far and away my favorite. Although a bit behind graphics-wise, it was a very unique take on the FPS (First Person Sneaker) and well done throughout all 3 games.

Actually that's an Apple ][ game, all other versions are ports.
