best way to use an 5850 in my current rig

I have a

xfx nvidia 680i LT
32 bit Vista Ultimate
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2.66GHz, clocked to 3.2

I was just wondering if a 5850 would work well with my current set up, and also, if I popped an i7 in it, would that require me to install vista over again?
I'm totally new to this, so any help you guys could give me would be much appreciated!

Your CPU would bottleneck I bit.

When you put in a new CPU, a new OC install is not required but, it is recommended.
You should put x64 Windows 7 on it anyways. You will see a huge difference. (Better)

680i is socket 775. i7 is LGA1366. And just for future knowledge, CPU swapping does not require an OS reformat.
So with my current set up, listed below, would you guys suggest an upgrade from my sli 8600 GTS XXX, or would the XFX 5850 just make games unplayable?
I'm not too sure what bottle necking means.
You would see a huge increase from a 8600 to a 5850.
Its just, your cpu won't let the 5850 go to its full potential.
Its still a worthy upgrade

What CPU would let me use the full power of the 5850?
It doesn't have to be a ton better than my current one, it's actually doing me pretty well, but what would be maybe 1 or 2 steps up?

Save your money and use your current processor with the 5850. Upgrade when your current system can't accomplish what you need it to. Don't worry about bottlenecking- you won't notice anything.
