Ok this is what i have in my system now:

1x 180Gb Corsair Force SSD
2x 640Gb WD Black

On the way:
1x Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB
1x E-Sata docking bay

I decided to get the Samsung as it was on sale and use it primarily as my new Storage Drive in addition my my 2 1TB external USB drives. But i've read everywhere that the samsung is actually a very nice drive.

At the moment i have my OS,Games, photoshop on the SSD and other applications (Office, Afterburner, CPUZ, VLC ect...) on the 1st 640Gb drive and downloads/Firefox Cache on the 2nd 640Gb.

I was thinking maybe it's a better idea to use the Spinpoint in my desktop and have all the downloads and apps on it and then switch out the 640s and use them for backup?

Is there a better way to use these disks?

I would use the SSD for boot, 640's in Raid 0 for performance, install all my games and programs on them and use the 1TB as backup / downloads

Which is exactly how i have my system setup - 64GB SSD boot drive, 2x 1TB Caviar Blacks in Raid 0 - 1TB backup / iso collection / ect.

Ah i'd forgotten about Raid to be honest. Yea that is a decent idea. Thanks for that

. Although i'll keep my games and apps that require speed like photoshop and primiere on the SSD as i have a 180Gb SSD.

but I'll raid the 640s in Raid 0 which should work out quite well for all other apps and downloads!

I have very similar to you, 2x60 RAID 0 SSD, 2x500GB RAID 0 and a single 1TB in a hot-swap tray. I made the 2x500 RAID 0 bootable for emergencies, and I clone it to the 1TB single drive with Casper.

I use Macrium Reflect (free) to keep a full image of the SSD drives on the 1TB clones.

So whatever happens, I'm covered.
