Better performance with crossfiring or getting a single expensive card?

Would I get better performance crossfiring this cards ($400 total, $200 each card)?:

Radeon 5770

or getting this more expensive card ($429)?

XFX Radeon HD 5870

Which option would produce better results? I can either get one of these two options, and want to get the best for my money.

a single hd5870 would be the best option.

hd5770's in crossfire perform just about the same or greater than a single hd5870.

go with the 5870

im getting 5770 CF cause a 5870 costs $550 here :/
