I currently have my rig in my sig. 3570k, 2400mhz ram and 3x R9 290x on a Z77x-UD5H gigabyte board running 3.0 (x8,x4,x4). I am thinking this a bandwidth limited situation and have looked into going 2011 but will be kicked solidly in the pants by my better half if I spend $800+(or even more than $400 for that matter) on a platform upgrade. So I was thinking of upgrading the UD5H to an ASUS P8Z77 WS or a Maximus V Extreme for the extra PLX lanes. I have a sound blaster Zx card which would need one of the x16 slots (bottom one I presume) on these boards since they don't have the exposed x1 slot layout that the UD5H has.. So the main questions is will I gain framerate and smoothness at 1440p 60hz by upping my lanes? Or is the CPU upgrade required as well? I run my cpu at 5ghz, sometimes 4.8 depending on my mood.

Thanks,

Chronicfx

X4 3.0 should be fine for Crossfire with no significant FPS difference. You should be fine.
