BFG LS 550 ATX Power Supply PSU 550w

Well known brand and 3 year warranty looks like it would run nicely in a system, any thoughts?

It isn't very good. I mean, it isn't complete garbage, but you can do a hell of a lot better for the price. The voltage regulation is crap, a friend of mine used it and the 5V rail ran at ~5.4V and fried three of his four hard drives. Also note that it isn't 80+ certified; just "80-85% typical". That means that it dips below 80% at 20% or 100% load, and if it can't manage 80% at full load at room temperature... That kind of sucks.

These are all much better choices:

Performance (40% of the final score) - on the strength of its 80 Plus certified electronics

Ah, I was looking at the GS-550W.

LS-550W, GS-550W, MX-550W... What the hell kind of naming scheme is that?

For $40, eh, I guess. There's still a lot better choices on the market.
Yea, I know but this one seems well built/priced and fits my budget.

I notice you have a Corsair TX-750.

CX, VX, TX, HX.... What the hell kind of naming scheme is that?

And for only $40, I really want to see what you think is a better choice on the market.

Touché. Though Corsair doesn't have more than two models per wattage rating.
But as for "better price on the market" that was before I knew it was $40 and I was talking about the crappy GS model.

Still not my first choice, but if it's still for $40 then go for it.

The OP linked to the wrong product. The LS-550 is:
new version (OEM Enhance)
old version (OEM ForePoint)

Both versions are quality units and have 5 year warranty (with product registration). Reviews:

Basically the BFG LS-550 is a nice, solid unit that is very comparable to the Corsair VX-550 and at $40 it is a complete steal. Grab 'em before they run out!

Dang, wish I lived anywhere near a Fry's. I thought $50 shipped for the LS-450 was a good deal... Not like I need anymore, my collection is big enough as it is.
