Ok, i have a xfx 7600gt xxx. But its not hacking it with games like far cry, oblivion on max. Now its possible to get x1900xt cards for under £200. So should i get one or wait for the dx10 cards, as it is so close?

I am not sure about this but i think in order to use the new DX10 cards and utilize DX10 you need to use Vista also. So unless you plan on waiting for DX10 cards and purchasing Vista also, i would go with whatever option you have at the moment.

Have you tried using CoolBits on it? A mild OC will present an improvement.

BTW, I used a 7600GT on FarCry and it was pretty darn good. What are your issues?

hi obliviont will run alot better on ati hardware , i think it i because of there superiour shader performance , i have the same problem as you , in the middle of a new build i have everythng except the graphics and cpu
i have a 6800gt ATM and wondered if i would hold back for dx10 cards , then common sence came to me , No i wont wait for dx10 , the reason ?
well i will need vista , i am running rc2 ATM , but it still is not stable enough for games , also the dx10 that comes with this vista wont work with dx9 games, i have to install dx9 over it to get games to work ,
The other reason is , there wont be any good games out to take advantage of dx10 hardware for a good 10 or 12 months , well crysis will be out , but i cant justify that amount of money for one game.
Last reason , dx10 cards will be very expensive and because nvidia will be first out , they could charge anything they wanted ,
i will wait till this time next year untill i think about dx10 card
For now i will get a x1900 or prob a x1950xtx , and fly through eveygame at the moment with everything maxxed , inc oblivion....
hope this helps

btw a 7600gt is faster than a 6800gt and my card will struggle with games maxxed esp , COH etc so a jump to a x1900 or x1950 for me and you will be huge , esp if your cpu is fast enought o take advantage of the new graphics power...

no i am afraid not , dx 9.ol will be for vista only , btw i think the whole story came from .....shock the inquirer! , i would love to see the length of there journilists noses! dx10 will be vista only
i really hope microsoft will do this , but all this vista dx10 and videocards seems to be a right mess , ! one doesnt seems to know what the other is doing , and the time scales are all over the place , i cant see why a games studio will develop for dx10 only , when 99% of the people wont have it ....

You can use a dx10 card from my understanding but will be forced to use dx9 to play games. In order to fully use dx10 you will need to use Vista.
