I have an 17 965 and my BIOS on my Rampage Extreme only sees 2 cores instead of all 4. I have tried resetting CMOS and defaulting all BIOS values, no luck. Has any one seen this before? Is there something wrong with my cpu? Thanks.

If you don't have latest BIOS, check the release notes and see if there's anything related to that.

my EVGA bios is the latest with an i7 920 and it only sees 2, but in windows it shows all 8 threads

I always thought there was an option to enable all cores in the bios somewhere? Might want to search for it. That or I was seeing things one time.

My BIOS only sees the 2 cores when I go into the option to enable all the cores. Windows only shows 2 cores with 2 threads each for a total of 4 threads when it should be 8.

Hey try to enable Hyper threading. Or this happened to me. If you go to the start menu, go to run, type MSCONFIG. Then when it pops up go to the BOOT tab, when in the boot tab, hit advanced options, when that popup comes up you will see number of cores, make sure it is NOT checked, this will make computer only see and notice as many as you pick. You could have 4 cores under the pull down menu and then the computer will only see 2 cores since the 2 threads for each core, so uncheck it and that should solve problem, if that is it.

Just a point of interest however, why do you have a $1,000 CPU, and a 9600GT?

You the man!! Windows shows all 8 now(core and threads). Thanks for the help.

Now, there is a BIOS setting, "Active Processor Cores", in my ASUS Rampage Extreme II. The options for it are "All", "1", "2". I had THOUGHT that this represented the actual # of cores, which would be 4 in i7 case, but there is only option for All, 1 or 2. I'm guessing this means someting else. What does this mean?

I'm broke after buying that CPU

I'm not a very heavy gamer, I do like to have raw processing power. However, once I have funds, I think I will be investing in a nice card. Suggestions are welcome.
