Bit the bullet on 5970 QuadFire ... Now .....

A few questionz!

1) Since the egghead site had quantity limits of 1 card per account I had to buy two different brands
I picked up 1 PowerColor and 1 Sapphire.

For CrossfireX should they be ok ? Would it be better for me to flash them both to one vendors bios? Any compatible or recommended bios revs for these cards?

2) I am running 3 dell 24" but they do not have DisplayPort connections I had ASSumed I would need an active dp -> DVI-D adapter , but I see threads where pplz are sayin that passive DP->VGA DSUB is working?? Any confirmationz?

3) I have two DD-5970 blocks coming for the pair, anyone have any benches yet on them under water? I saw a few posts around but most people havent received them yet to push full reviews and how far they can be pushed (volts and temps to vrm)

4) Anyone seen any comparisons between my current GTX285 SLI w/DangerDen blocks against QuadFire 5970 ? I'd loooove to be able to game/run at full native rez 5760x1200 , highest resolutions Ive found posted were 2560x1200+ or so.

The reason I broke down and grabbed them is because of well.... given GT300 delays I got tired of waiting and wanted full-res triple head gaming

The machine specs are in signaturez line (OCZ Vertex and second 5970 arrive Monday, DD Water blocks arrive Tuesday, and it will be a late late late nightz Tues!!).

So hopefullyz I get to retire the GTX285's to that auction site place soon and rock out on quadfire. Side question , should I put the stock cooling back on and sell the DD blocks separtely from the cards , like the Blocks as two sep items and the cards as two sep items?

As far as I read, CrossfireX and Eyefinity currently cannot be used together. (Later drivers will fix this.) If you want to use three monitors, you MUST use an active MDP converter, there is no way around this limitation with present hardware. Lastly, there is no disadvantage to running mixed vendors, BIOS flashing is superfluous.
take some pics as soon as you get it set up, unboxing and in the case etc..because well I would love to see em! and also some benchies? pwease

Also with that setup I do believe you could run like 3 games a once lol

Well Ill pull the side of the case in about an hour or so to take some pix of the gtx285's w/blocks for the inevitable carnage.... so Ill post pix of the case and run a few vantage and 3dm06 runs before and after. (and the PowerColor sitting all by its lonesome till Monday)

The rest o' da pix will go up I guess as part of a re-build log?

Pix or it didnt happen .... fawk thats some funny stuff!
Personally, I think you should just go with the HD 5970 air cooled for now until the other one gets here then watercool both as intended. I BELIEVE (but am not sure about this) that 1 HD 5970 will beat 2x GTX 285 on quite a few games.

Would love to do that but that would mean I would have to kill my water loop as it goes res -> cpu -> gpu1 -> gpu2 -> rad .

So if I pull the GTX now I have to drain the loop and re-plumb, toss in the simgle PowerColor.... then Monday the second, then pull them out again & dismantle the fans ... then add blocks... and replumb.... thatz a massive PITA lol

can't wait to see the 6400 shaders of PAIN let loose on games making them beg for higher detail and resolution.

You cannot get much higher than 5760x1200 I think. (Granted, with the exception of WQUXGA... hm... 2 HD 5970s each driving 2 1920x1200s... yum.)
Ugh... and I thought that simply swapping out the air cooling unit on my CPU was a pain.
