So today while overclocking an amd athlon xp 2500+, I had set the frequency to 200 (MHz i think [first OC ever]) and put the voltage to +10%. the system was running fine but about a third of the way through the wPrime stress test it gave me the BSOD. earlier i had it at lower voltages and it would BSOD earlier so i had just increased the voltage to get more stability but +10% was the max voltage the bios would let me have. So i went back into the frequency and lowered it to 195 and then memory clock opened up so i decided to raise it by the lowest value possible (25% i think). so i saved and then when i looked back at the screen 1 min later it was just black with nothing on it. monitor had gone to sleep. couldnt wake it with mouse or keyboard so i turned the pc off and back on and it never showed anything. monitor woke but then went back to sleep straight away. so what do you think is dead if anything. the memory?

Have you tried re-setting the CMOS? Take out the motherboard battery, wait 10 seconds put it back in and see if that helps.

All of the motherboards that I have had have said to take it out for at least 5 minutes. There is also usually a jumper on the board.

LOL Welcome to the world of overclocking! Nothing is dead, you just overclocked to much, WAY to much.

The settings you changed in your BIOS crashed your computer. They're still there and every time you try to start your computer it will crash again. You have to un-do what you did. If you can't get back into the BIOS you'll have to do a BIOS reset.

Turn off the computer.
Turn off the power supply
Unplug the power supply from the wall outlet.
Find the "CMOS Battery", it's silver, about the size of a nickle. It's in a round, black holder.
Remover the battery.
Count to 30.
Put the battery back in
Plug in the power supply
Turn on the power supply
Turn on the computer
Start the computer.

The above resets all the settings in the BIOS back to their defaults.
BIOS chps have "volatile" memory, as long as there's power to them they "remember", but as soon as you remove the power they forget everything.

Note: The unplugging the power supply from the wall outlet is important. All modern power supplys continue to power the BIOS chip even if they're turned off.

Now, try to go A LOT SLOWER with your overclocking. Make small changes and write down what you have done and the result you see. Try downloading CPU-Z, it will tell you a lot about what's going on with your computer.

Good Luck!

They probably say 5 minutes to be on the safe side; I've heard some people tell you to leave it overnight.

just realised the cpu is 1.83 GHz so when im doing these overclocks is it putting 200MHz EXTRA or what. the bios has a turbo profile and a normal profile. normal is 100MHz and Turbo is 200MHz. what am i actually changing? and what is the clock speed now?
