Alright I'm thinking of buy an 'open box' Blue Orb II from newegg, I assume that this won't come with brackets, so where can I get some?

Also with a TEC on the cpu wont that cause the HSF's brackets to stretch out so they can't attach? Since the TEC will be sandwitched in? Or could I remove the IHS and put the TEC in place of it to have the HSF positioned in the same place? I've never done any of these before and I'm confused about if you remove the IHS or add a TEC if the HSF will not fit on it.

Not a big one, just one enough to help a lil' with overclocking. If its not worth it then I wont, but wondering if I could replace my IHS with it so I wouldnt have to do anything with the HSF not fitting.

That's a nono. Only thing that can do tec on air is the armada or the tt 120. You'll see worse temps with the tec.

The point of this thread wasn't to discuss TEC's effectiveness.I was wondering would I need to mod something on my board if I take off my IHS or add a TEC and where could I get a bracket for the Blue Orb.

no it works like a charm!!!!

I have it on my TEC setup and my palermo 3400+ idles at 17 C (its running at 260x10) 200x10 stock

Blue orb II + TEC is good air cooling

Edit: to mount it i used extra screws from the 775 socket mount on top of the K8. there are ways to adapt it for your setup

Alright thank you, but what if I remove the IHS? Arn't they about the same size and I could 'swap' the two? Not expecting to get sub ampient temps but maybe a degree or two. Also where could I get a mounting kit and thx for the post!

You have a K8 set to mount it normally. The Blue orb II comes with several mounting kits. there are screws from the socet 775 set that can be added to increse the lift on the heatsink and provide a seemingly perfect mount.

Edit: Paint Picture coming soon to show how I did it.

I was thinking of buy an 'open box' item from newegg, cheaper but dosn't come with the mounting kits (don't think so at least, just says no accessories) But I could just buy both the mounting kits and do what your saying. Also if you removed the IHS would you need the 775 mounting kit since it would off set the TEC?
