Hey my neighbors recently got a Linksys router, and its unsecured. The thing is, its pretty far away and my signal is at Very Low. how can i boost this signal?
I tried taking a piece of cardboard, covered it in aluminum foil, and ran a long wire back and forth over it, and tried attaching the other end of the wire to my wireless card. doesnt seem to be working, will this method plain not work... or do i need to like open the card, and put the wire on sumthing inside?

Yea, you can get good range with building that pringles can, some hackers were using it on goverment sites. I was going over that stuff in my Cisco class. BTW I 'borrow' my internet also, connected into a T1 so I'm never going to stop.

First of all, even it it looks unsecured like unprotected by WEP or any kind of encryptions, keep in mind it might be blocking MAC Adresses and restricting unknown MAC Adresses. And in this case, if it blocks MAC Adresses, it won't up as unsecured or not encrypted and will make you think you can actually connect to it but you will be blocked so, useless.
And get your own connection.

so the question is, is it stealing if the consumer doesn't care/doesn't know how to set up a wifi router and has a open wlan?

I mean if you find 5 bucks on the ground, is it stealing? So you found free wifi....

IMHO places like McDonald's, libraries, etc. transmit wireless signals for the public, so the public should be able to use the signal. They don't make you sign a paper saying you won't use it outside of the property. However, if you were to be monitored by said institution and were downloading something that is against their rules, you could possibly be faced with some type of charges.

If they don't encrypt the wireless then it's completely legal, besides I use a public one anyways.
