BOOTMGR In Windows 7, HELP!!!

1247 Views 7 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Massive17
I just bought my gf a new laptop right after starting it up I formatted the drive and started to install Windows 7. It gave me a the blue screen of death and the second time I tried it game me missing BOOTMGR message and when I tried to repair Windows through the installer it keeps giving me a blue screen of death. I don't think there's anything wrong with the Windows 7 disk I have installed on my laptop that I'm typing this on so I have no clue how to fix this. I installed XP and it works fine but I keep getting this problems with 7, Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. - Art

Since you can boot into XP, I would Download EasyBCD and use it to fix the boot loader. I used it to fix Win 7/Vista dual boot and it worked fine for me.

notice there is no option for Win 7, just select vista/longhorn instead.(it can be renamed to win 7 in another option)
Also the first OS you had installed is C: drive.
Thanks Im gonna try that but right now I have formated the drive and only have one partition where I am trying to install windows 7 on. So should I just make two partitions so i can load EASY BCD?
oh yea i keep getting the BSOD, did you ever get that too?

EasyBCD will just fix the boot loader for dual boot. If your just installing one no need for Easybcd
If installing xp with Win7 install xp first then Win7 will recognize xp and give you the dual boot option in the bios.

If system restore does not work then you may a driver issue or corrupt installation.

Not sure what you are asking but yes you will need one partition per OS. Vista and Win7 will automatically create the dual boot manager in bios when it recognizes another OS, so if dual booting with XP install XP first. If Vista and Win7 order will not matter. Also I noticed the Win7 installation disk partitioner act up on me before, so I would first format the whole drive during XP install, create your XP partition during the XP install, then create your other partitions in XP Via disk management.

Or if you plan on gaming on both, make three partitions and install the games on the third that way all you need is to create a game shortcut on each desktop rather than installing games on both drives.
