Just reformat. Its the most effective way of making sure you dont have a botnet and its probably faster. If of course you are actually part of a botnet. Unless you see something blatantly obvious it is probably going to be a pain to remove manually.

Why do people always say reformat at the first sign of a virus/whatever?

Download Avast, see if that shows up anything, and be sure to use the boot-time scan.

Uh, what information does it give about the botnet? I mean, it would be helpful to know that.

In the mean time, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware will help you out.

I ended up reformatting but thanks guys for the tips. I now use avast antivirus and have Anti-Malware installed also.

As for the botnet it doesnt say I have one anymore. When it did say I had one it didn't give me any information on it, it just told me that I had one. Thanks again!

BTW I should probably go about changing all my passwords right?

Too late. God damn man, if you had just downloaded Spybot S&D, Malwarebytes you would have been perfectly fine and not needed to reformat.

Want to know how you got the bot? Running unknown executables.
Don't run keygen programs. Don't run 'crack' programs.
Don't run 'Legit Windows Update Bypass!!!1'
They're obviously going to infect your machine... Just use common sense next time, okay?

Haha thanks for looking out, but I needed the reformat anyway. Just figured I'd kill 2 birds with one stone.

And yea I usually watch out for that kinda stuff, its just that my little brothers end up on my laptop too and im not always there to make sure they aren't messing around.
