Let's see... Where do I get start... I had a dell matx comp for awhile but I took it back home to replace a comp that was pretty out of date. Now I'm missing a comp and thought why not build another one? Of course, I wanted to still keep an matx comp and I recalled the cube marcus had, but I didn't want the same one as his. So I got the V350. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Smile"><br><br>
This build will be powered by an E7200 and 4890 and eventually internally watercooled.<br><br>
The name of this build had inittially come from the cpu block with the Custom Promount that I'll be making to go along with my fuzion as the heart of the rig. However, I've add so much brass that I've changed the name to BrassIe. What does it mean? Ie in Japanese, means house or home. So, it comes out as Brass House or Brass Home.<br><br>
EDIT: As there are time restraints on this buildlog, I've decided to keep it aircooled for now. It will have water cooling later down the road and I'll update the log accordingly.<br><br>

<b><span style="font-size:x-large;">Update 3</span></b><br><br>
Here are some window frames for the side panels.and the front rad grill. both of these will have a brushed look.<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh17.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh18.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
here are the side panels. these will be powder coated a nice satin white. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/redface.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Embarrassment"> i'm still missing the screw holes so i'll be drilling them in later.<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh19.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh20.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
and a mock set up of what it should look like.<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh21.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh22.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
and here are the backplate and custom bracket. i was initially making it by hand but after 4-6 revisions of the original design... i still couldn't get it how i wanted so i decided to get it waterjet cut. it turned out great.<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brackets/br42.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brackets/br43.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>

<span style="font-size:x-large;"><b>Update 4</b></span><br><br>
so i decided to get rid of the bottom T section from the res so that when you look in, you don't nee that annoying piece of metal. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/redface.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Embarrassment"><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh23.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
its all cut now but its a bit of a problem with the res now as it doesn't have that previous support.. im thinknig maybe i'll use my spare one and leave it alone.<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh24.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
i needed to make a pump mount that would fit inside the case... the way i had it before.. took up way too much space and made routing tubing a real pain... soo... improvision time!<br><br>
took a UN Z bracket and a UN ddc mount thing.<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh25.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
and took them apart! shortened the screws on the Z bracket and used the top section from the other mount. then i took a piece of aluminum which will be replaced by brass later... and bent it into an L. drilled two holes and voila! a nice new pump mount inside my case.<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh26.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
and a closer look at what i did.<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh27.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
since i'm going brass... i figured i'd make the rad brass too. i got some paint stripper to well, strip the paint.<br><br>
before<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh28.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
and after. this is after some light sanding. i'm leaving some marks so it has a nice aged feel to it.<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh29.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
and the other side with brass barbs.<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh30.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
initially, i wasn't going to do anything to the front.. but its became a problem with the rad fiitting so i decided to just gut the whole thing.<br><br>
the outline<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh31.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
and cut. hewever, there was a fitting problem with the rad wl fans on... soo...<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh32.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
a bit more cutting and its all good now.<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh33.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
here is a mock fitting of the front plate and rad grill. looks yummy! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/biggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Big Grin"><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh34.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
you can tell that the rad grille is too long but thats not a problem. i was going to use iandh's rad grill at first but with some help from marcus, i got a brass one made. iandh's rad grill i had was already cut to size so i'm just going to line them up and cut off the excess from the brass grill.<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh35.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br><br><br>

<b><span style="font-size:x-large;">Update 5</span></b><br><br>
on to the cutting! here is the iandh grill ontop of the brass grill. taped off section is the one that will be cut. they are being held by m4 screws and thumb nuts.<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh36.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
and cut! looks pretty nice.<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh37.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
now to finish up the front panel. cut off that middle section<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh38.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
then cut off the corners and gave it a quick sanding.<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh39.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
and with the brass grill on for a mock up.<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh40.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
a picture of the rad. it looks silver but it was just the lighting. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/redface.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Embarrassment"><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh41.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br><br>
next will be the bay caddy and hdd caddy.<br><br>

<b><span style="font-size:x-large;">Update 6</span></b><br><br>
Well, I hit some obstacles.. the sidepanel with the bay opening was incorrect and started to feel that the bay res wouldn't go too well with the theme. SO! i switched it to an delrin aquatube.<br><br>
drilled in the hole for the power switch then i need to cut out the hole for the aquatube. i've also figured out my HDD placement.<br><br>
with this, i've scrapped all of the interior hdd cage and bay cages. i'll let the pictures do the talking now. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Smile"> next step, powder coat.<br><br><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh42.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh43.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh44.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh45.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh46.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh47.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh48.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br><br><br>

there are actually 2x of each panel. whats great with how i have things set up is that i can use either air or water cooling relatively easily. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/biggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Big Grin"><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh58.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
here are the same panels with the brass linings. whats next is to get the case powder coated.<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh59.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
started sleeving the PSU. finished the 8 pin and 1/6th of the 24pin<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh60.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
4 pins left for the 24 pin. man.. reminds me how much work individually sleeving each wire is. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/frown.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Frown"><br><br>
will be finished by the next update. then gotta sleeving 2x 6pin PCIe connectors, 1x SATA cable, and maybe a couple of Molexes for LEDs. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/redface.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Embarrassment"><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh61.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
and we hava test fit of the side panel... PERFECT!<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh62.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br><br><br>

<b><span style="font-size:x-large;">Update 9</span></b><br><br>
Finished sleeving the 8pin and 24pin connectors for the PSU. for the 8pin connector, each wire was sleeved with 22 inches of nylon sleeving. and for the 24pin connector, each wire was sleeved with 23 inches of nylon sleeving. total, i used 705 inches just for 8pin and 24pin connectors! 705! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/eek.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="EEK!"> though i'd have to say this is my best sleeve job ever. most of the heatshrink is uniform at the ends. i'll be sleeving the modular cables later.<br><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh63.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
now a test fit in the system while it is aircooled. i'm actually using the system right now b/c Valkyrie has a dead mobo. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/frown.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Frown"><br><br>
now some shotts of the wiring looks.<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh64.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh65.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
i have the 24pin curled for now. i'd like to stuff it in the small space right above the PSU but its a bit difficult atm. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/redface.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Embarrassment"><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh66.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
and the 8 pin i've flattened out next to the GPU so that the side panel will actually fit. when i was using a different PSU... and the stock sleeving was on.. i had to leave everything open b/c it wouldn't close. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/frown.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Frown"><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh67.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
but now it does!! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/biggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Big Grin"><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh68.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
and a full shot of the front w/o faceplate<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh69.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
and a test fit of the faceplate on. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Smile"><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh70.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
now with the brass and fans. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/tongue.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Stick Out Tongue"><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh71.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br><br><br>

<b><span style="font-size:x-large;">Update 10</span></b><br><br><br>
Now originally, i had planned on having the HDDs on the side panel, but where is the fun in that? you can't even take a peak inside w/o having to totally dismantle it so that became a no go. With the original HDD rack, it blocked the way for tubing for water cooling so i needed a way to cut it down and make it work.<br><br>
with some brain storming with repo, we came up with cutting down the HDD rack. now i needed a way of still keep it attached w/o having to ruin the case. i decided to use brass L rails. two pieces. 1x 5.5" and the other 7.5" this way there is a total of 3 spots holding the HDD rack up w/o any sag.<br><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh72.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh73.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br><br>
this is what came out. after this, the HDD rack will get powdered with the rest of the case and the L rails will get polished. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/biggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Big Grin">

<br />
however, some things have changed and this has become an air rig temporarily. my template did not arrive on time so i've resorted to using air for now. <img src="/images/smilies/frown.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Frown" class="inlineimg" /> i'll update with new pics once it goes liquid. <img src="/images/smilies/redface.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Embarrassment" class="inlineimg" />

<b><font size="5">Update 15</font></b><br />
<br />
finally finished polishing all the brass. was raining over the weekend so no chance to do so. <br />
<br />
my method of polishing of brass starts off with the brown polishing compound to get rid of as much of the scatches as possible. then i wash off the compound w/ dish soap then dry off the brass w/ a microfiber cloth. after those are dry. i repolish with mother's metal polish to give it a final good shine. <img src="/images/smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Big Grin" class="inlineimg" /><br />
<br />
this is what i end up with.<br />
<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh86.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
<br />
and the polishing compounds. <img src="/images/smilies/redface.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Embarrassment" class="inlineimg" /><br />
<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh87.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
<br />
next step, to pick up the powdered case and reassemble the beauty! <img src="/images/smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Big Grin" class="inlineimg" />

<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh98.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
together<br />
<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh99.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
then adding some neoprene on the top to reduce vibrations when attached to case..<br />
<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh101.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
well speak of the devil. its attached to the case!<br />
<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh102.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
and the HDD rack put into the case too.<br />
<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh103.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
and the other side of the sexiness. <img src="/images/smilies/redface.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Embarrassment" class="inlineimg" /><br />
<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh104.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
face plate and brass grill<br />
<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh105.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
and the xiggies that go along with it!<br />
<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh106.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
they go together quite nicely huh? now you must be wondering what that big gaping hole in the front panel is. thats for the aquatube res. for now it's a peek hole. <br />
<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh107.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
sidepanel, window, and outline.<br />
<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh108.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
both done.<br />
<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh109.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
the PSU is being held in by brass 6-32 screws. <img src="/images/smilies/redface.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Embarrassment" class="inlineimg" /><br />
<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh110.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
and mobo with card but no fan for hsf..<br />
<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh111.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
here it is! i've sleeved the fan connector and my little mounting method for the intel heatsink. problem is that it tends to wiggle around.. <img src="/images/smilies/frown.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Frown" class="inlineimg" /><br />
<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh112.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
so what i did was cut thin strips of 1/8" neoprene with adhesive backing then rolled it around the thumbnut and voila! its keeps it nice and tight while reducing vibration!<br />
<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh113.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
all together!<br />
<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh114.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
with how the case is.. i need the 8pin to lay flat against the PSU so i can close the sidepanel properly. <img src="/images/smilies/redface.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Embarrassment" class="inlineimg" /><br />
<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh115.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
both 24pin and 8pin all connected and nicely wrapped around itself. <img src="/images/smilies/tongue.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Stick Out Tongue" class="inlineimg" /><br />
<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh116.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
2x PCIe connectors connected too!<br />
<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh117.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
then of course the custom SATA power cables.<br />
<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh119.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
and last but not least! the sata cables connected to the mobo.<br />
<img src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh120.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" /><br />
i'd have to say that this is my best sleeve job i've ever done.<br />

<b><span style="font-size:x-large;">Update 16: Part 3</span></b><br><br>
b/c of the powder/brass, i decided to ditch the old cover on the back of the case for the HDD rack.<br><br>
i took some leftover brass from my midplate experiment awhile back. traced the old cover and cut it out with some shears. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/biggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Big Grin"><br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh136.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
then i took them both outside and clamped them down and drilled out the four corners.<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh137.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br>
and attached!<br><img alt="" src="http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/nafljhy/brassheart/bh138.jpg" style="border:0px solid;"><br><br>
i will be doing a similar design to the radgrille in front once i get the watercooling gear in. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/redface.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Embarrassment">
