Browsers close when trying to search for antivirus programs

I'm running Windows XP, and in both Internet Explorer and Firefox, every time I try to do a search for any antivirus program, the browser closes. I had to uninstall my antivirus before because another program conflicted with it, and was trying to get one back (I used AVG before). I've tried downloading AVG via Bittorrent, but it doesn't seem to want to install either.

when you go to actually install it, it may ask you to close all browsers to make the download more secure. try this link it's Cnet.

http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Vi...-10320142.html
So your browser closes ONLY when you search for anti-virus programs, its not the website you keep visiting? If you do manage to download one they refuse to install?

Tired and about to go to bed, so probably a dumb but... Maybe a virus that doesn't want you to install a anti-virus program?

Honestly, no clue... wierd problem.
You probably have malware on your system then. Some viruses block you from getting help.

Does this test work for you? http://www.confickerworkinggroup.org...feyechart.html

I was thinking that it's a virus too. It has to be! I mean, what else in this world would close a browser the instant the user does a search for an anti-virus program?

Anti-virus links for testing purposes:

www.avast.com

www.avg.com

I never tried searching CNET, but as soon as I clicked that link, the browser closed. As far as installing AVG, I just get a quite progress bar on screen that disappears in a second and nothing gets installed.

I tried that test thing, and according to it, I don't have Conflicker

So, clicking the links I posted closes the browser too?

I tried the Avast and AVG links, and had them load in another tab (I'm running Firefox right now). They seemed to load just fine if I didn't have that tab selected. But as soon as I clicked it, the browser closed.

Edit: Tested with IE just to be sure, and the same thing happens.
