[BSN] AMD's Opteron 8000 Deal: Buy Three, get One free

In a bid to prepare the distributors for the 1Q 2010 arrival of Maranello platform and Magny-Cours processors, AMD moved to silently clear the stock of existing AMD Opteron 8000 Series multi-socket processors.

In an invite, AMD is clearing following processors on a principle "buy three get one free" and the company isn't even segmenting the number of units - clearing the inventory is a standard business practice, while AMD definitely wants to clear the remaining multi-socket stock.

come down to CRAAAZY EDDYS AMD SALE!!

well it sounds fun, I wonder if I can sell it to my customers like that?
but if you just order in 1 hour we will throw in free shipping!. So that's 3 Processors + 1 free Processor + free shipping for 5 easy payments of 299.99
some customers may not get the free shipping if living anywhere in the world. Shipping handling and fees apply + hidden fees + some random tax we like to apply and put small font so it's hard to read

That's all this makes me think of.
this sounds like a car tire advert... I guess if it works for tires why not processors... a bit odd though
nedz moar cups. tree freeee wunz rnt enuf. I am makng teh Life™ Creal wit dem.
Promoting quad sockets i guess?

So instead of a straightforward price drop, the consumer saves 25% when they have big orders for those quad socket trays.
hmm...

I'm just thinking its more practical for amd to go with a straight forward 25% price drop instead of a silly walmart like tire deal.

I'm forgetting of course like the walmart deal, this is for clearance and stock reduction purposes

But deals like this in the computer world are a pain the ass and disappointing to the wallet. Remember the 2900PRO's ($300)? XT performance but $100 less ($400). But weeks later the 8800GT comes out @ $269 and yeah...

Oh of course i wasn't arguing about your message...more than a time or two though i have read your posts and that disappointed expression has perfectly conveyed your message

Maybe they expect to sell more in bulk then they would if someone just decided to buy only one or two for 25% off...either way there clearing stock

Got to get it done one way or another

Hi there Freetroller can i get me some of that trolling too? JK...ok not really...well maybe just a little

If they are trying to clear stock, the B3GOF works better because it will encourage companies to buy 4 processors as opposed to just one at the special price

The question is, do you get 3 and one of them for free, or do you get a 4th one for free?

that's really only 25% off...yeah, sounds bad when you rationalize things.
Well, I'm sure that for the most part it's a move to attract new customers to quad-socket platforms. And if you need to get four of the same chip in order to hit the ground running, might as well give you an incentive to buy that fourth chip.
