Hey, what's a good budget card that can play modern games at decent settings on higher resolutions?

depends on what you mean by "budget"
otherwise a 5770 is looking pretty good.
Many people have a much different opinion of "budget". How much are you looking to spend?
Under $100 preferably.

I think that limits you to a 9800GT/8800GT or an HD4830. GTS250 or HD4850 for $120-130ish.

You can probably find a HD4850 for around $100.
Would a 4850 play at higher resolutions comfortably?
It is all in the games you play, so like that games do you play.
prolly, but not maxed out. like 1680x1200 playable? yes but eyecandy will be lacking

a thought
If i was u id get a GTS250 or look around for deals on here, get some good gpu's.

GTS250 is a weak card for gaming. It is weaker than 9600gso.

No its not, a GTS 250 its just a 9800gtx+ which is basically a 8800GTS. Its about the same as a 4850, and is much faster than a 9600 gso...

I'm looking at this one, but the vram seems a bit low.
No eBay stuff please or time sensitive stuff. No clue when the video card will be bought.

Nothing wrong with 512mb, you could even do 384mb no problem.

The vram won't matter till you get up to higher resolutions, and by that time you would want a more powerful card anyways.

And that is a very good card, seems like your best newegg option at the moment.

oh, you might want to consider this card, it is very good, and at the moment is $135 with $10 mail in rebate, and free shipping.
