So I am searching for a video card for my girlfriend's dell 4600 because her intel extreme is too crappy. She basically will only be playing the Sims 2, but I want it to be able to run smoothly, at a rate that makes the game actually enjoyable. So I am searching on eBay for a semi old graphics card for her PC. I read good reviews about the Nvidia 4600 ti but I had an issue w/ the specific one I ordered. I was looking at the BFG site and I can't tell what series of nvidias are better than the other (i.e. it the fx5200 is better than a geforce4 4600ti). So just wondering, what are some of the really good video cards that are just a tad outdated or are just a good value? Just looking for a card that I will be able to pick up on ebay or newegg for around $50. I figured with all of the great cards coming out these days to run games like FEAR I could find a card capable of the sims2 for a decent price. Just looking for recomendations of what cards were the good ones. Some of the ones I was looking at were the fx5700 ultra, sapphire 9600 pro, asus radeon 9550ge, so far I am open to any recomendations. Also, her dell 4600 i think only has a 250w or a 300w power supply and the card must be agp.

GF4 Ti series are way too old,a radeon 9600xt or pro would do the trick they can still run every game and dont consume much power. You can get a radeon 9550 aswell.

So is the radeon 9550ge slower than the 9600 pro? The $10 difference for the better card probably wouldnt hurt.

yes its goes like 9600xt > 9600pro > 9600 > 9550 , they are all capable of the same technology on different gpu/mem speeds. Buying a new vga card would be better than getting a second hand for sure. Dont get close to those SE versions they are 64bit,GE's are good ,gamer edition 128bit ones, i'm using it on another computer plays everything smooth unless you get into anti aliasing /anis. filtering etc.

no really. 9550 is really a 9600 that is underclocked. Just overclock it and you have a 9600

You can also flash it to a 9600, but it's easier to overclock

I'm very fond of the Radeon 9600 series, especialy those made by HIS and Leadtek. They overclock great, and the image quality is far better than eny of the next gen cards. My 9600SE ran BF2 on everything medium, 800x600, 2x AA, 8xAF. Averaged 25-30 FPS. Great little cards.

Also, you can't forget that a 9500 is most of the time softmodable into a 9700 Pro.

Then the card I linked (9550, 265MB, HIS) should run fine since the 9550 has the same core

In my opinion, i'll buy 9800PRO/XT, it's very cheap, and it's very good card. In my country, it cost about $150.

The 6200 by itself is good. The 6200 TurboCache is horrible. But dont confuse the 6200TC with the normal 6200. The one in the link is a good one. It is the one I have in my old comp.
