Hey forum,

Here is a proper update to my main rig's build log.

I didn't start with any 3D models or sketches or anything like that, this mod is being done completely on the fly so aside from what I've already done. It's completely open to suggestions.

I've decided to do both picture and video logs for the build. I'm using my Samsung Focus for both so that will be my excuse for the really crappy sound quality in the videos. There are a ton of photos to go through so they might not be up right away but you can see the next post for the video log.

So I spent the last 6 hours doing a little painting and man what a difference it makes.

I used "Milano Red" car body spray paint from Canadian Tire and sprayed a bunch of coats directly on the pieces after roughing up the surfaces with a little sand paper.

I also have a CM 690 II Adv, and I wanted to paint it, but I had no idea where to start. Can you tell me what paints and primers you used? I am thinking about giving my case (same areas you painted) a piano white coat.

This computer started off in an old In-Win Griffin Case that was Yellow and Black. Then I upgraded to this case but it was all the same hardware. Although now it only has 2 original parts left from the first build. The four Scythe 110 CFM Slipstreams, and the 60 GB Vertex 2 as a boot drive.

I just used some Premium Automotive spray Paint made by Dupli-Color that I picked up at a hardware store. I just grabbed some 600-grit sand paper and scuffed up the surfaces a little. Then I did about 5-7 very light coats of paint until the parts matched all matched. I didn't actually use any primer.

I find it looks so much better than I thought it would.

To-do list:

- Power Supply Grill
- Strip sticker off side of PSU so it's completely black
- Maybe paint a small tribal design on the PSU or my name (solid red would be too much)
- Paint fan grills
- Add a tribal design to the side panels

Okay, so update time to an old build thread.

I will be adding a video your of my current rig tonight and updating this thread with the pictures, rather than a link to the album.

I also have a juicy update for you.

I have now purchased the majority of my Water Cooling parts for this build:

List of ordered parts:

• Tubing

• Mounting hardware

I plan to have the Microres and pump mounted in the 5.25" bays, the Black Ice Pro 120 on the back of the case, the RS 240 on the top of the case with fans in the upper mesh area, the RX240 will mount on the bottom where my H100 currently is. On top of a pair of shrouds and AP-15's.

I'm still undecided on tubing and waiting on another member to reply to me here on OCN. I'm leaning towards 3/8" ID 1/2" OD black tubing because of the 3/8" barbs on the pump. I'm not sure if using 1/2" ID 3/4" OD tubing would work on the 3/8" barbs of the MCP350.

I am still undecided on fans for the top-mounted RS240 RAD and the rear-mounted Black Ice Pro 120 RAD. I have a Vantec Stealth fan on the rear, and two 140 mm Thermalright fans on the top that will likely be replaced by 3 more AP-15's if I can find a good price on them.

I plan to put a silver kill coil in the reservoir and just run distilled water.

Proposed loop order is:

RES > PUMP > Bottom RX240 > CPU > Rear Black Ice Pro 120 > Top RS240 > RES

Looking for any recommendations. It's worth noting that I will eventually be adding a 7970 with a full water block to this loop, at which point I may add a second MCP350 with a serial top if I find one pump isn't enough.

Okay, big update time for all you who are interested in a triple RAD CM 690 II Advanced Beast.

I received the RS240 and Black Ice Pro 120 last week and the Microres and fittings last night.



Last night I went ahead and installed the EK Supreme HF on my motherboard.



Picked up some tubing from home depot:

Watts 3/4 in. OD x 1/2 in. ID x 10 ft. Clear PVC Tubing



Then I went ahead and installed all the parts in the loop and kind of ran out of space for the pump :/







Currently half way through it's 24-hour leak test, so far 10 hours leak free before I left for work today, so tonight I should find out if it's good to power on fully or not.

Good old VF3000A, I love the looks of it, the problem was finding a red that matched it for the rest of the case though.

Great job man,keep you eye on that clear tubing for it clouding over,i ditched clear after 2 years of constantly changing it out due to clouding over.
I like the look of it,its awesome.

Any plans for you GPU blocks?

For the clouding, it's got a slight clouding to it, but still transparent for the most part, and with the blue LED's form the RAM coolers, actually looks kind of neat to me.

As for tubing, it was $8 locally, that was the only reason I chose it. I figure if I plan to add a GPU block down the road anyway, I'll have to re-do the loop order anyway, so I'll get proper tubing then, don't forget to vote in the poll at the top

As for choice in a GPU block, I am not sponsored on this or my other build, so budget is something to keep in mind. I'll be getting a full cover block without a doubt, and I'll most likely keep an eye on the OCN marketplace for a 7970 + block deal.
