okay, AWESOME update.

I spent all night...well, its 2AM on the 30th...so its still the "night" of the 29th...

Anywho!

I spent all night working on the LEDs, mostly just thinking about the layout. I finally made my move.

The motherboard backlighting has now been finished!

It looks...AMAZING. I'm so proud of myself...like, you don't even know! Took me quite a while to do though.

Finally done! It took a lot of "tweaks", but I got the placement perfect!

.....18 aug wire was a mistake :p

I actually forgot to do some soldering, so I did it "on site". No damage done

Update :D

I finally got done cutting the case up. Took me two days as my first dremel broke, and the second....just sucked. Thats what I get for going with the "cheap model"
tongue.gif
Finally shelled out $100 for the top model.

First I driller some holes for extra fan mounts wherever I could.

An extra 230mm front mounted fan might help airflow a bit
thumb.gif

I've found my CM SickleFlows get over twice their normal audio level when mounted against a grill.

I've also heard cutting out fan grills and removing dust filters can drop system temperatures as much as 3-5C!

Now for advanced cable management.

I'm no metal-smith, that's for sure
doh.gif

For cable management behind the motherboard.

A larger cutout for mounting CPU coolers while the MB is installed.

All cleaned up and ready for.......A period of waiting while I decide on the cable sleeving and wiring.

So here's the plan for the LEDs. I will be backlighting the motherboard, lighting the front of the PSU and the radiator (top mounted) all red.
Its very likely ill also light the inside of the case with "cool white" LEDs.

Both will be controlled separately by rocker switches.

Now the problem is, what color should the paracord be? I found good prices and choices locally at ~$6/50 feet. Here are some choices, please help me decide!

There is no gray ln that. Expand the picture and you will see only white and black.

they have plenty of colors there. I just picked out some I thought were cool.

I don't really want to do red. I feel like my build has enough of it.
White would be nice, but I don't actually have any other white in the build.

I'd like to do silver, but I don't think ill be able to get the same shade as chrome plating with any type of sleeve.

So I'm at a loss for what color would look best

If u drill holes in the corners before using the cut-disc on your dremel you will get smoother/rounded corners

Thanks for the tip!

its too late now, but all those cuts will be out of sight and out of mind anyway.

Pet peeve : How quickly you go through Dremel cutting disks.

Anyone know of a better solution for cutting up a case?

I must have one of them laying around somewhere. I'll give it a try when I make a backplate cutout on my junk-case.

Here's my current setup while I wire the LEDs into the Haf X

Its an old bottom-shelf ATX I acquired sometime ago. CM Centurion 5 (generic version). I took off all the plastic panels because they weren't doing the aesthetics any favors, then threw away the side panels (I don't remember why). The case is set up to take 2 92mm (I believe) fans. I drilled and cut the top for my 240mm rad. My PSU is sitting between the case and the wall (its well ventilated).

Not-So-Funny Story : I snapped the SATA port off my Samsung 840 Pro shoving my GPUs in there. Luckily the gild pins were intact. I found the snapped-off plastic piece, shoved it into a sata cable, then carefully inserted the pins. It still works.....but it does worry me.

OKAYYYYY. Time for some updates as I'm actually getting things done this weekend.

The wiring for the red LEDs is almost done. I just need to get the main wire attached to the rocker switch at this point.

This will be out of sight, so I don't need to make it pretty.

I did some fan wiring for my extra PC. It was quite noisy with all the fans going, so I decided to make the loudest fans controllable with a rocker switch. I wired this so that you can replace the fans or remove the switch without hassle, rather than soldering it to the fans or PSU. I plan to sell this extra PC and figured that little add-on would be a nice selling feature.

I likes the way the switch fit into the mesh. Plus I could always replace the 5.25" bay covers if I messed up....Which I kinda did. Sanding the cut-outs into perfect circles was...near impossible, so I was left with imperfections. Hopefully my screw-ups will be near invisible in the grand scheme of things.

I also ordered some U-channel molding to put around my cable management cuts so my paracord wont get ruined. I'll be putting electrical tape on the back of the MB to protect the paracord as well.

I''ll be ordering some heashrink this week so I can get started on sleeving next weekend. I'm thinking this is the sleeving I want to use.

Alright, I'm hoping to start sleeving this weekend. I'm thinking I'll buy the paracord at my local army surplus store so I can make sure I like the colors. I can't decide between the black and white combination paracord or doing alternating black and white wires.

The heatshrink may arrive before this weekend, it may arrive after. It's all in the hands of fate now.

I think its like like 11$ for 100 feet there too. I bought 200 feet of black and gray last spring at that store. It took me forever to decide on a pattern.

yes we are. I either get my paracord at that store when the wife and I stay in Portland or when I am driving home from work in Boston and stopping at the Saugus,Mass army barracks.

Oh cool, its nice to see another enthusiast in the area!

I've seen your Paradox build (awesome job by the way), but I had no idea you were from around here.
