I decided it was time for another super tower build since Corsair launched their massive Obsidian 1000D case. My previous build took place in an equally large Thermaltake The Tower 900 which has been great.

This time around I'm planning to implement a dual system with a minimum of 3 full loops. I won't finish the complete project until Intel next gen of HEDT CPUs comes out, so, for now, I'll be keeping my current internal hardware with no secondary system.

The plan is to run my i7 6800K and EVGA 1080FTW on a mini ITX board as the secondary system. My primary will likely consist of Intel's next-gen X399 (not to be confused with AMD) and a GTX Titan T (whatever it will be called assuming one launches this year).

For now here's a rundown of what's going to get done and the parts being used:

My case, fans, radiators and some misc parts arrive Wednesday. I'll post an update once these get in and I start the build. Cable Mod has not shipped my stuff yet therefore I can't finish the build until those arrive.

This is going to be an interesting project since I'm completely unbuilding one super tower and putting parts into the other.

I also ordered the following items for this build:

-Cable Mod custom PCIE x8, ATX, EPS, SATA power and Molex cables
-Cable Mod Aluminum screws in green
-Cable Mod SATA car in green
-EKWB Pass through fittings nickel x4
-EKWB 90 deg fittings in nickel
-10,000mm of Thermaltake V Tubular 16mm PTEG (You can never have too much tubing)
-Primochill LC soft tubing

I have a ton of spare parts from my other builds so don't be surprised if the parts list changes frequently as I fine tune things.

My tower, fans, radiators, coolant, and tubing arrived today. I realized the top radiator/fan mount natively supports 140mm fans so I ordered some Corsair ML140's to replace the ML120's. The next thing I ordered was some Aquacomputer Splitty 9's to accommodate the large number of fans I'll be running in this case.

Here are some pictures of what's to come. As you can see the tower is equally massive like my Thermaltake.

TTS 900 has been fully disassembled, all water blocks and radiators are now clean. There's some light fatigue on my CPU monoblock but nothing to worry about. I've been running it for a year and a few months now so I don't expect it to live forever. Radiators, fans, motherboard and GPU will go in tonight. I'll do some tubing runs tomorrow and hopefully get it to a working state.

Here's what I'm waiting on still:

-All cable mod items
-Aquacomputer Splitty 9's
-Corsair 140mm ML fans

Some pictures of today's progress. I repurposed my old mousepad as a workmat.

Made progress today, I'm finalizing the loops and waiting on parts still. Unfortunately there's no way to connect all of my fans until tomorrow, cable management is going to be fun.

Tubing will be hard in the front and soft in the back.

Both loops were filled today and texted. I had a leak from the roatary fitting going to my CPU loops drain valve. After I fixed the issue and filled both loops I ran a few tests.

My 140mm ML fans haven't arrived yet (Amazon sucks on occasion). PWM hubs are still arriving today. I'll post some pictures later

I got everything running and ordered a few things. I'm not 100% happy with a few of the tubing runs so I'll be changing them once I get my cables next week.

More parts were ordered because what build doesn't need fancy stuff?

-Aquacomputer Aquero XT6
-Corsair RGB LED strips


Note in some of the pictures a GPU line (white coolant) is not full towards my rad. These pictures were taken while I was in the process of filling the loops.

I'll post another update when I get the other parts.

I like this case. It's the first one ever that looks good to me and would allow me the kind of cooling I want internally, without having to make sacrifices due to case dimensions.

Is there a particular reason your case airflow is the complete opposite of what most people use?

With how my tower is situated I didn't want the exhaust air (which will be hotter if the rads are my intake) blowing towards me. The intakes are all cool air since inside doesn't get hot whatsoever. My temps dropped by an average Delta of 13°C under heavy loads so there's no need to change it current. Once I add my second system I'll flip the front ones to be my intake since I won't really have a choice at that point.

Corsair made some design compromises compared to other towers I've built.

-The pump mounting area is very small and forced me to stagger the two D5's
-3.5" drive bay is non-removable, but I plan on modding my case and making a smaller enclosure there
-front radiator thickness is limited to 60mm if you want a push/pull due to the drive bays

Other than these things I've been happy with the case. Once I finalize the current design I'm going to start planning how my second system is going to run. I want 4 loops if possible inside the case, 3 at a minimum. My GPU will be getting replaced within a month anyway so that will cue some other upgrades as well.

I've never been able to feel the exhaust air temp when sitting at my desk -- it's always blowing away from me. And those compromises are nothing compared to most other cases. I only use 60mm max thickness rads as I don't like the 80mm ones. The staggered mounts wouldn't bother me, as I'd most likely mount the pump-res combos to the rad fans anyway.

If I was building in this case, I'd have the front and top be cold air intakes for the rads and the rear be exhausting the warmed air. I'd be using monoblocks so there wouldn't be any consequences for having the interior being a bit warmer than it otherwise could be.

Here's a picture showing where my old tower and new one sit/sits. I can feel the heat after a while but I'll likely swap the fans orientation when I get my cables this week. The inside of my case is identical to ambient temperature so there's no issue running my setup as is. I montior thermals at 5 points in my case so I'll have to compare it when I make the change. I agree about the compromise but I'm shocked Corsair didn't make that area removable. In terms of versatility my Thermaltake was significantly better. I like the 1000D a lot becuase the panels make access a breeze plus the downsides are minimal. I'll be pushing the limits with 3 let alone 4 loops. I'm not sure I'll be able to find a Mini-ITX X99 motherboard since only 1 was made and I can't find it in stock (ASRock X99E-ITX). My set up is silent with all 21 fans at 800-1000 rpm, in fact I'll likely be able to shut off the rad fans and passively cool everything I'd I wanted for normal stuff. I think you'll like the set up once I finish it off with new cables and fix the tubing.

Update 6/5/18

I got a surprise this morning in the form of my CableMod order! The new elegant cables were promptly installed, I flipped all of the fans since I moved the tower to a better location, and fixed a piece of tubing. Proper cable management will be done once I install the Aquaero later. This stage of the build is finally nearing completion. My Aquearo 6XT arrives this afternoon and will be installed alongside the Corsair LEDs tomorrow with pictures to follow. For now enjoy the pictures :) (some of them keep posting sideways for an unknown reason)

I added in Aquacomputer inline temp sensors, and rearranged some cables/tubing. I'll post an update this weekend when I get some time.

With the imminent launch of Nvidias next gen GPU and intels new CPUs my system is getting a complete overhaul again. I will rebuild the entire PC with a second system and swap my X99 based CPU onto a mITX board so both will fit into the case. Custom loops won't be an option from day 1 unless EKWB releases their waterblocks for Nvidias FE based cards. I have a second CPU block (EKWB Supremacy EVO in nickel) which could hopefully be used with an adapter on the second system. Stay tuned for more updates!

A little update since I forgot to post one before .


2080ti FE and EKWB full nickel/Plexi block + backplate have been ordered! I'm waiting on the i9 9900K to launch so I can add that to the list.

I'm also considering a build in a 1000D, I have an idea for a custom front acrylic sheet, to replace the tempered glass. Can you give me any insight on its dimensions or how it is attached?

Very nice build so far!
Got my 1000D two weeks ago, and I do love it a lot.
Asus RIVBE/I7 4960K (passive video card) and Asrock Z170 fatality/I7 6700K/1080ti.
I have swaped the radiator support plate, so I got the two 360 EX radiator on the top, and 3 x 120mm fans blowing "cold" air on the front.
Since I live in a tropical island, I had to do it this way.
Only downside so far, the commander pro is really.. erhm..2 fan port are not working at all :( well I wish I could install my aquaero 6 instead, but I in the end I think I will drop it inside, it far more robust.
