=========================================================

Hello everyone,

Its been a while since I have made significant changes to my rig but I have finally decided to upgrade. I have been using my X58 setup since 2010 and have finally decided to upgrade to x99 a few weeks ago. I have gotten rid of most of my components already and have a few around which will go in my X99 build. Here is my final X58 setup as of September 2014.

My X58 Rig
Motherboard = ASUS Rampage III Black Edition
CPU = Core i7 930 @ 4.44Ghz
RAM = 6GB (3 x 2GB) Corsair Dominator GT (C7) 7-7-7-21
GPU = EVGA Geforce GTX 780 Hydro Copper @ 1320mhz
Sound card = Creative Soundblaster Recon3d PCIe
HDD1: (120GB) Corsair Neutron GTX SSD
HDD2: (750GB) WD Caviar Black
Power Supply = Corsair HX1050
Case = Corsair 800D
Monitor = Samsung 2233rz (1680x1050 @ 120Hz)

X58 Cooling
CPU block = EK Supreme HF (full nickel)
Pump = Swiftech MCP655
Radiator = Thermochill PA 120.3
Reservoir = Bitspower 5.25" Bay Reservoir (POM Version)
Tubing = PrimoChill PrimoFlex PRO LRT Tubing 1/2"ID 3/4"OD (white)
TIM = Indigo Xtreme

My original build log here on OCN:

The final state of my X58 build:

I have loved this rig for years. The farthest I was able to push my i7 930 was to 4.46Ghz 24/7 stable with HT enabled. It is now time to look forward. I have not done a major build like this in many years and I certainly have never had a budget as large as I do now. But I figured why not!

Here is a sneak preview at some of the new components:

Stay tuned for more

But Im over it now. Its time to look past it and focus on the new build

welp. that really sucks, especially because it's a rare board. When I sell on ebay I don't accept returns, I make sure it's in working condition, ship it off, and that's that.

anyway, past is past, I'm excited to see what you have in store for this x99 build

I finally placed my GPU order today at EVGA. The ones I wanted came in stock at at 3:03pm

By 3:06pm, it was already sold out. I believe by early next week, this build is a go!

Thanks! The GPUs are scheduled to arrive to my home in the middle of next week. There will certainly be lots of pics

Here is what I have as of today:

Everything is alive!

^My cable management is nice no?^

That "OC panel" thing is good for monitoring temps. Im assembling my loop later tonight without the GPUs. I want to start OCing the CPU as of now. Pics will come very soon

Save that baby and sell it here in OCN (or sell it for 65 bucks less).

Great thread!
Good luck with the build,
I am in a similar position but based on how poorly newer GPU's run 4K (even in SLi) I am going to wait another year.

I would wait as well if I was doing 4K. But at the moment, Im planning to run all this at 2560X1440 so it should be enough.

Heh I originally did want to sell the Rampage III Black here on OCN because I trust people on here are not dumb. But unfortunately I didn't have enough rep so I had no choice but to risk it on Ebay.

Even though the socket pins are bent and the board is ruined, Im still somewhat glad that this board is going to one of our fellow members here (Jeffinslaw). This deserves a good home.

I made a lot of progress last night. I assembled the loop so that I can OC the CPU over the next few days before the GTX 980s arrive. I purchased Arctic MX-4 but my EK Supremacy waterblock came with a tube of Gelid GC Extreme:

I wasn't sure which to use so I made a thread here on OCN asking for opinions and I was told Gelid performs better. So I went with the Gelid. Il be saving the MX4 for later I suppose. I honestly have not used thermal paste in so long. On my X58 rig, Ive used a single application of Indigo Extreme since Summer 2012. After taking it all apart a few weeks ago, this is the TIM residue left behind on my EK Supreme HP waterblock by the Indigo Extreme

Pretty impressive IMO compared to traditional paste. The Indigo however feels a bit permanent so Im not quite ready to use it on x99 just yet. Anyways on to the waterblock. Its an EK Supremacy EVO Full Nickel:

Out with the old and in with the new:

Im using the same fans and a Thermochill PA 120.3 radiator that I used in my previous build:

The board is in. Some last pics of the 5930k before it gets covered:

I decided to change the style of the loop slightly. Usually Ive always had the tube going from the pump to the rad, in the front but this time I decided to tuck it a little behind the rad. So I remeasured out new tubing:

This corner was a bit tricky because these RAM sticks are quite tall but I managed to just barely make it
smile.gif

Everything up and running!

During the day:

This loop and wire management is temporary until the GPUs arrive. The GTX 980 Hydro Coppers are scheduled to arrive this coming week so this gives me a few days to OC this CPU. Its going to get crowded in this case

I needed a full 180 degree turn. Because of the way the "Extreme" is on the board as well as the ram modules, I had to make the path come out a lot more than I would have liked. I experimented with the fittings for a good hour before making this decision

The single 90 degree fitting would not fit there I tried.
