Hello and welcome to the 'Orca & Rucksack' build log... :)

This project commenced back in November '18 as part of a series of builds - five in total. Some of the other builds were full servers or workstations. Even those were fun, rummaging through boxes and what not in our store room for things such as water cooling parts...

Also, some years ago, I did a fair amount of XOC overclocking (then put it all aside)...so once the workhorse projects were completed, I took an inventory of what was left over...5+ MPC655 pumps, 8 rads, tons of fittings, hoses and fans, in addition to a phase cooler, LN2 pots etc (neither of those used in the Orca/R build - yet).

So the Orca & Rucksack build took shape...After deciding on new purchases such as MSI MEG Creation X399 with 2950X TR, 32GB of TridentZ Samsung-B and 2x 2080 Ti water-cooled GPUs, the system was first running in its prototype format in late December '18. Unlike most other builds I have done, this is a full custom build, with a heavily modified Thermaltake Core P5 case (lots of drilling, cutting and Dremel tooling). The GPUs both have solid copper tubing (including 90 degree elbows). One of the most difficult challenges was to 'hide' the 5x XSPC 360/60 RX rads with a total of 20x 120mm fans, along with 4x pumps and make the look of the build different, fun and interesting.

Tx Hydroplane :) ...yeah, from now on, this type of open case is my starting position for other build-plans...!

Before, I either tried to stuff way too much in a 'rectangular case', with bad airflow to boot, or worked with several 'open benches' that after a while looked like real-life Kraken monsters (> w-cooling tubes for quad-GPUs, CPU etc)

Mine already looks like a kraken monster, or a mad scientist lab lol. Good temps tho :D

:D ...Nice ! I lived that for several years until several Krakens (all w/ multi GPUs w-cooled) had spilled out of the home office into the living area - the women in my household threatened to '''help''' me and organize it all...that was the impetus I needed, because their knowledge of electrical things is, ahem, '''spotty'''

Unboxing the first Aorus 2080 TI Xtreme WB...they are very big and very heavy !

Mounting card 1 into the test bench (a Z170 SOC Force)...A lot of RGB everywhere :sad-smile - but great clocks right out of the box

...GPU 1, please meet GPU 2...for GPU 2 it is time for a basic bench and leak test, albeit just for a temporary setup before the Orca & Rucksack build gets serious

Per attachments below, 'operation clean-up' had begun

...picking out used fittings from the 'big ol' box of old water-cooling stuff'...

...cleaning, cleaning, cleaning and then some more cleaning, before multiple rinses with distilled water

...three pumps done, one to go (note the 'blue' tinge on / inside the rotor cap).

...the first of five used XSPC RX360/60 rads to get a thorough cleaning...after four rounds of tap water flushing, two more rounds with distilled water...after drying, some new black paint for the rad casing

Next steps after cleaning used water-cooling parts...

...choosing among my favorite used PSUs...decided on the Antec HPC Platinum 1300w, given the dual 2080 TIs with 375+ w per GPU, various pumps and fans, and of course the (all-core overclocked) Threadripper 2950X

...some shopping for tools of the trade to heavily modify the Thermaltake Core P5

...ever spent an afternoon trying to find little screws, stand-offs and fasteners ? This box came in very, very handy :)

Per attachments...

...first boot up of mobo and Threadrpper 2950X...mounted in a (grounded) test bench cage; temporary air cooler has a 2nd 120mm fan strapped on...turned out it did not need it, but better safe than sorry

...first fitting on to the Thermaltake Core P5 with X399 MEG Creation mobo, 2x Aorus 2080 Ti Xtreme WB GPUs...

...first base-lining of the copper tubing for the two 2080 Ti Aorus GPUs
