blue ray isnt really needed, nor is hd video normal tv quality is fine, i'm not really familar with what defines a media center and a normal pc. needs to plug into a TV and record TV shows. can someone help me clarify?
I think what you're after is an HTPC (home theater personal computer).
You can buy HTPC cases that look more like a reciever than a computer. You can also buy all in wonder video cards, that have input as well as output so that everything runs through the HTPC. after that you can just look around for some older parts to build up your rig, you don't need anything to crazy.
A HTPC is just a PC that is hooked onto a TV and primarily used to watch shows and movies on. Nearly anything should do. a cheap dual core 2GB ram, 780G motherboard with integrated HD3200 should easily do.
