Hey Guys,

Been lurking on here for many a year and I need help. I am about to build a system that is based on the following Specs:

Intel Core i7-990X Extreme Edition - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115079

ASUS Rampage III Black Edition - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131726

I need help selecting the RAM, I want the ram that will work best with this system; however, I am having a hard time with the different speeds and brands (gskill v corsair dominator v etc). All I really want is 24 gigs of ram. If I could get opinions on what I have already selected (if it is indeed the best out for gaming) and what ram I should get, please let me know. Thanks for your time!

I'd say dump the 24gb of RAM and just get 12, use the extra money for some beefy video cards and a PSU.

There's no way you'll be using the 24gb of RAM. Even if it's cool to say, your wallet won't think it's cool.

Well like others said 24gb ram is useless for gaming,I agree with them,
still if u want 24gb ram go with one of these:
1>corsair dominator gt 2000mhz (6x4gb)
2>gskill trident 2000mhz (6x4gb)
@op,
the gskill ripjaws ram u mentioned in the link is not as great as two of the above ram I mentioned,I highly recommend u to take one of above ram,
but 6x2gb would be a sensible option

I mean in 99% of the titles out there a x4 chip is just as fast.

It doesn't even have to be a SB x4, even a 920 is going to be within a few fps of a 990x.

990x is for people who do rendering and encoding, and a massive amount of multi-tasking. Most games use only two cores, the amount of games that use 6 cores (let alone 12 threads) can be counted on one hand.

As you said though its for e-status so destroy his weak single chip build with an Xeon SR-2 build, do it right.

Don't even think about buying any of those second-rate RAM kits they suggested (no offense)

The 990x deserves the best RAM.

I humbly suggest buying the Super Talent Speed 2133 8-8-8 Hyper Kit from xxbassplayerxx here at OCN.

It may not be 24gb (but who the hell needs 24gb if you're only gaming, windows will just end up caching most of it), but the sheer power makes up for it.
