Aright guys so a buddy of mine wants to build a PC and wants to keep it under $500. I originally recommended AMD because they do 9cycles but he wants to stay Intel so this is what I recommended him, tell me what you all think. Keep in mind he has the other components that I don't have listed, and also, he wants to overclock everything so that influenced my choice too. Also, he is going budget so no 'wait for quad-core or DX10 or vista' recommendations please. Here we go:

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 @ $116 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128017
CPU: Pentium D 915 @ $120 (800mhz, 2.8ghz, 2x2mbL2) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116253
Graphics Card: eVGA 7600GT @ $113 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130062
PSU: Logysis 550watt @ $40 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817170011
Case: whatever he picks, $35 abouts
Ram: PNY PC4200 2x512mb @ $70 or so on ebay, I've found a couple buyitnow's at that price.

What do you guys think?

yea honestly for a bit more money he could have a much better X2, but ya know, to each his own. If he really wants intel, go for it. Definitley change that PSU though.

The E6300 isn't much more tell him to save some more $$$ so he can get a build that will last, or go AMD.

That would be even better than going with AMD but the E6300 is about $50-$60 more and that PSU needs to be replaced with a more reliable one

Yeah guys believe me I am with you all that if it were me and I was building a 500 dollar rig I would go AMD or spend 60 more dollars and go e6300, but I tried pushing the core 2 and he def didnt want it, Ill try to push AMD but he didnt want it before, I know I know...for midrange AMD definitely is better than Intel. Ill check into the PSU again, I recommended that one because its cheap, he isnt gonna be rocking anything fancy, and thats one Ive had for 5 months and no problems with my 7900GTO and 4.7ghz overclock, but the general consensus seems to be to go better, I dunno I may just tell him to go with it cause its only $40 and mine has served me well as of yet. Thanks all, keep shouting out recommendations!
No core 2 though he definitely doesnt wanna go that big...Ill try for AMD again.

You could sell him your psu for like 30 bucks and then get a better one for yourself

Heres a great PSU for the money, been rock solid on the voltages powering my rig for a while now. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817174023

That one looks nice, Ill recommend that one to him then. Hey I have a question though, since my PSU doesn't have dual 12V's, when a PSU has more than one 12V, do you add them all up to get a total? Becuase I see $150 PSU's with 2 or 4 12Vs and they are like 18A each, which isn't enough to power a single higher end card? Can someone clear this up?

There is a specific amount of watts available on the 12v rail, on multi rail PSU's they split the watts up into however many rails that PSU has.

18a per rail is enough for all current high end cards

I'm terrible at explaining things
