Buying a monitor now....

I am a senior in high school and since christmas is coming up i was thinking about asking for a monitor over 26 inches. I already have a 22" but since college is only 10 months away a big monitor would be useful for a dorm room. Should i ask for one now? Would it be worth it over a tv? What's the sweet spot for a media(movies)/ gaming monitor that is big enough to accomadate 2 people in a dorm? What price range am i looking at?

I'm in a dorm and a 22" was too big for my taste to sit in front of on a desk. I downgraded to a 1680x1050 19".

If you're talking from a distance i'd say about 30" is a nice size, set it up on a desk/wardrobe.

Ive had 17'', 19'', 22''. Now I got a 24''. Imo from 22'' to 24'' the resolution bump is great. But there isnt a resolution bump until you get to 30''. So if you want 1920x1200, 24''-29'' wont make a difference, only the price of the size is different.

Well, when i get to college the monitor i get will probably be viewed at a distance to play some xbox 360, and 28" monitors seem to be the sweet spot. Should i take a look at the hanns g on newegg or should i spend a little more and look at lg and hp monitors at frys for 400? Or what do you guys reccomend? Or should i get a tv instead and just continue to use my 22"?

I'd just get a TV honestly.

Or better yet get your roommate to buy the TV, you bring like, window fans or the fridge or something.
