i can get it for $530 dollars.
And i'm planning to run windows XP onto it. btw do windows XP support 3gb of ram? I'm talking abut the 32 bit version of XP professional.
I would get a cheap xps. They are great for media and games.
Might be a bit over his budget though, my 3 year old XPS M1710 still sells for around £650. That laptop seems pretty good, but maybe you should consider getting one with a better graphics chip if you're planning on using it for media.

what's wrong with the Intel GMA X3100?? is it too weak? I mean it supports vista aero interface with ease
what is wrong with the Intel GMA X3100? is it so waek that i can't play youtube videos on it. or view AVI files on my desktop?
It's not that it's terrible, but some of the new Nvidia and Ati offerings are so much better, and they don't cost a lot more. With an Intel chipset, you may get a bit of lag playing HD video - I certainly did on a GMA 950.
