ok ppl i looking to spend about £550 - £700 on a laptop i live in united kingdom i would use me laptop for pretty much everything and i want some good deals any people have any recomendations for me

Yeah, definitly stay away from celeron. Usually a dissapointment. You really need a Pentium M, best mobile chip. I love AMD to death, but they need a good mobile set up. The turions are good, there just arent enough of em to shop around. Anyway, check out Acer and my personal favorite, Sony. I love Sony's laptops.

My wife purchased a Gateway w730-K8X Athlon Mobile 4000+, ATI X600 graphics 1024 RAM, solid system. Plays NFS Most Wanted like a desktop, and less than 8 lbs. You can pick one up for under a $1000. A good solid buy.

If you plan on doing any gaming I would recomend you look at something with a better graphics solution. All of the above are integrated graphics solutions. All of the above also use system memory as graphics memory. I am willing to bet that my slightly older P4 2ghz laptop with radeon 9000 graphics 64mb dedicated VRAM would womp on any of the above. I guess this comment isnt helping the solution though....

If I were you I would save just a little bit more and pick up this one

I have seen good deals in the paper on used laptops that are slightly older. This is just my oppinion though. But all i got to say is Intel Graphics + 3D = Slideshow

I know you are only looking to spend about 500-700, but I really can't say enough about IBM Thinkpads. My school issued me a T40, my brother bought a T-43, my cousin has an R-series. I have handled other laptops, nothing compares. They are phenominal computers: durable, lightweight, stable, fast, and good looking. They are pricey and I would buy a warrenty (I would do it no matter what laptop I get... if I didn't put it together myself and I can't fix it myself... I am getting a warrenty). Also, I don't know how good they are now that Lenovo took over, but my experience has been nothing but positive when it comes to them. And FYI, my old T40 struggles to run HL2 and CS:S on high settings (lower settings are playable), but I assume a newer one would work well... just to give you an idea of the power thats under the hood =)

Is your T40 running the ATI 9000? If so, thats impressive to run HL2 and CSS on even decent settings.
