I am buying an Athlon II 245 on monday for my brothers gaming rig. Now, I hear the word bottleneck used way too much and it's desensitized me to the meaning.

Will an Athlon II bottleneck a 4890? I've heard yes and I've heard no. I'd like this GPU to get some use since it's collecting dust after my 470 moved in

Depends on the game.

Crysis, any Source game? Probably not.
GTA4, Bad Company 2? Yeah.

A bottleneck is simply when one part is holding back performance. It doesn't matter what you do, you're going to have a bottleneck somewhere in your system.
