so far, thanks to all your help (chozart) i've got this far for sure
* CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 $213.99
* MoBo: Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 $145.22
* RAM: G.SKILL F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800$265.68
* PSU: Fortron FSP SAGA AX500-A 500W ATX12V 2.0 $84.26
* Video: Evga E-GEFORCE 7600 Gt Ko $159.00

Total: $868.15 CAD
only thing is, im wondering if there's a way i could lower the price, maybe by getting 2x512Mb ram in exchange for a better video card? or should i go with that ram, knowing there will be a flood of better cards on the market when the 8800 starts filling slots across OCN, and pick up someones old one next month

well hummmm the 7600 (even if it is stupidly fast)
wont keep up with games soon (as makers will take advantage of dx10)
so at least id say u need a 7900gs... even better a 7900 gto (cheaper than a 7950 gt), the gto is basicly a gtx with slower ram speeds... but it goes to gtx speeds no problem

hope this helps

well i've found an opened box 7900GS KO for about 230cdn but is the performance worth the extra 80$? because then for SURE i will need to move down to 2x512 ddr2 instead of 2x1gb ddr2. due to a limited budget, that has already been waaay over stretched

so i guess im asking, 7900GS KO and 2x512 ddr2 800
or 7600gt Ko and 2x1gb ddr2 800

Don't you guys have the Crucial 10th anniversary edition of DDR2 667 in Canada? That would be better than the G.Skill RAM that you've picked. Except the G.Skill DDR2 800 2GBHZ is the best for overclocking.

nah we dont. and in a trade off for a bfg 7900GS KO i've dropped down to 2x512 Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X1024-6400C4 1GB 2X512MB PC6400 keeps me under my 1000$ budget, with a decent GPU, and ok ram. im thinking i COULD make it to 3.0ghz on the e6300
my order list is attached

Wouldn't the x1950pro be similar performance and price to the 7900gs?

Sorry but 1GB may not cut it nowadays, 2GB is the best IMO. I now it is expensive but it'll be worth it,

Agreed. 2GB is highly recommended. And it likely will take a while before the 7600GT is *really* outdated
