We just got phone line internet in our student home, I already had internet but it was crappy mobile broadband and I could not game on it (rubbish bandwidth).
When we got it installed I was like "Finally, I can play CS:S online and xbox live", little did I know the housemates (2 of them) I am sharing the internet with love to constantly download songs, movies, be on MSN and generally hog all the bandwidth.
I would love (just for say an hour) to cut their bandwidth in half so I can game for a while, is this possible?
Thanks.
If your router supports QoS, this is very doable. Have a poke around in the configuration options - I was not able to find anything immediately with Google saying yay or nae, so you might get lucky.
I'd also like to know how to limit speed by IP. So far I haven't found anything in my Endian box that will, apart from QoS.
I've heard ClarkConnect will do it.
I think the only way you can get this done is with a firewall linux distro. I could be wrong. The only thing I've ever found in home routers is a QoS, or service blocking.

aw, I don't have QoS, thanks anyway guys.
Ill prob buy a new router soon anyway because the signal strength on this one is rubbish, ill make sure it has QoS
