Currently my acer aspire ax3950 came equipped with a core i3 540 CPU socket is 1156. Could I upgrade it to a 1156 core7 870 as a bolt in or would my motherboard not recognize it? This computer will mainly be used for gaming.
Any info or suggestion would be gladly appreciated.
This is a link to my current pc.

It should work just fine, however I'd send Acer tech support an email asking to verify if in fact that computer would support the i7. The H57 chipset does, so I'd assume that you machine could as well.

Only Core i7 that fits the 1156 socket is the Core i7-870 and Core i7-875k(unlocked multiplier for overclocking).

Defo agreed with Alatar, upgrade your power supply and you'll be good to go. In fact I don't even know how you're running a 5770 with a 220watt PSU. o_O
