Can I use a EVGA BIOS on a XFX board?

Title really explains it. The EVGA equivalent of my board has such better options in it's BIOS, I was wondering if it's possible to use that BIOS in my XFX board? Are the differences in manufacturers' too subtle for it to work?

Cheers.

AFAIK, all XFX's boards are reference Nvidia designs.

If the EVGA BIOS you're using is based off the reference design as well, I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Part of me wants to say no but the other part wants to believe for better over clocks...

does you board have the ability like the bloodrage to load a second set of bios one that is backup?

also is you bios chip removeable?

if you answered yes to either one of these questions then go for it

I just really, really, really, really, really want to have some assurance that it'll work before I go fiddling with this type of thing. I mean, once it's flashed... it's flashed. It won't go back, and if it fails I'll have to RMA my board.
Sounds like risky business. You can try it if you are willing to spend the money in case it fails.

But should it work, this thread would become full of win, and people would have no reason to buy the evga board, as the xfx is cheaper. You'd be a pioneer of sorts. . . kinda

imo, its too good to be true. I don't think there is more than a 30% chance of working out.

EDIT: Been searching the intrawebz for something similar. Nothing. Doesn't look like anyone has tried it yet, nor can I find a comparison between the boards to give an indication of differences in build design.

Yeah my gut is telling me otherwise as well
.

I don't know. She won't OC at all. It's time for an RMA soon anyway. I might pick up a 790i Ultra for $100 and RMA this board and re-sell it. I guess... that when I have the $100 to drop on the 790i I'll go for it.

Whatt? An Editor on this site double posting and saying they'd RMA a board if they broke it from a busted flash? Really now?

On topic, I always assumed to only use the BIOS given for that exact board from the manufacturer and it's way too risky to mess with flashing.

And I didn't know flashing your board and breaking it was considering able for an RMA.

No no no... I'm going to RMA it (the 750i) once I can get a 790i, considering that I can't OC on it (the 750i) anymore. And resell it.

Then don't do it.

Simple as that.

I've seen successful flashes with the 780i from EVGA to XFX bios. No probs as evga bios blew @ the time anyways. Worse case scenario is flash back the EVGA bios. Just make a bootable iso cd prior to the flash to xfx. Image is available on EVGA's site. GL
If you say it won't overclock at all, I had a similar experience. Same chip I have now on a DFI LT-X38 T2R. I couldn't get it to go past 3.2ghz no matter what I did. I ended up selling the board to a guy on here, and he got his C0 to OC to 4.3 with no problem. So it turned out to be the RAM I was using that was causing the issues. See if you can find the qualified memory vendor list for your mobo and order some different ram before you do anything drastic.

Cool stuff. Will definitely try that! Thanks!

I just wish that DDR2 wasn't so expensive these days

A board isn't typically "broken" from a failed flash. It just needs to be reflashed having equipment that only the manufacturer typically has access to.

It would be different if he said "Hey I just spilled soda on my mobo, going to clean it and RMA, K?"
