My friend fried the HDMI imput of my 26" TV so i sold it to my dad(no HDTV in my country yet)and i'm going to buy a 24" samsung monitor with DVI and HDMI.
I know for a fact that you need a lot of horsepower to run games at that res,but i was thinking that the card might be capable to run at least a couple games like CoD 4 at decent frame rates, does anyone know of games that can run smoothly on the card @ 1920x1080?

Depends on the game and settings.... but a 8800GT will play any game decently (just not maxed out).
No. If you want to play any game at that res you need like gtx280+ (highest settings)
If you are cool with medium graphics with low AA or no AA at all, then the 8800gt will do.

Was there a gtx280 when 24"s were out? No.I can play Crysis at 1920x1200 at high with my current overclock at like 23-25fps

No, it can run ANY game at 1280x1024, MOST games at 1680x1050, and FEW games at 1920x1080.

But CoD4 should be playable, but newer more demanding games will bring it to it's knees.
i'm thinking of cod4/dmc4 max graphics noAA noAF,i'm no max out guy.
You can play CSS and BF2 and BF:Heroes and Quake Live MAXED OUT all day long!!!

Really i dont understand why people hype up 1920x1080/1200 to be such a big deal with video cards. You'll be fine just as long as your not expecting to play some of the new games maxed out with full aa/af. I had an 3850 512 that maxed out UT3 with no problems what so ever. Enjoy your new monitor.
I assumed OP plays with AA/AF on since 0 AA/AF looks horrible on everything.

Yeah but at that sucky fps you can. Try dx10 very high highest AA. Like I said, it can run anything with medium-high gfx but not maxed.

I don't really consider that to be 'sucky' framerates. Sure, higher FPS is pretty, but I get about the same FPS in my 9800GTX at 1440x900 16x AA all settings at high or very high.

Will it play games, yes, will it play them well? Not really no...
Depends on the game. Newer games like Crysis or Farcry 2 will not play as well on your card as say, Counterstrike: Source or the Original Quake...for obvious reasons. But you can definitely play games on your card.
Not really, I think that a second one would work alittle better tho at 1920*1080. 8800GT are not designed for high res, they are designed for upto 1680*1050 medium to high.

not many 8800GT's hit that high. my old one hit 650 / something... and that something for the shaders was less than the one i have now. stock for the memory.

Guys, I don't want to highjack this thread but I have a question to all... where can I download Crysis benchmark software? I only have 3DMark06 and when I go to validate my score, their site tells me that my futuremark soft is no longer supported.
a single 8800GT can run 1920x1080 with no aa and medium-high graphics settings. this is acceptable because at that res aliasing is much less pronounced.

cod4 w/ no aa/aaf all setting cranked i got 58fps average, 98max, 43min on my buddies 28" hanns G [1920x1200], sli i got 78fps avera, 134max, 65min.

Human eye can see 24 fps max. After 24 fps it can be 25 or 25000.It will be just the monitor playing it that fast and you wont be able to see any lag after 24

Human eye probably does see 30 FPS (24FPS in a movie cinema because of an afterimage that makes it seem smooth), however, your brain can see more. Although playing at 30 will play it perfect, you will notice that playing at 60+ FPS just seems smoother, it is because your brain is processing all the frames, not your eyes.

I totally have a 8800GT and my monitor's res is 1920x1200. I don't play much else other than Warcraft III but I played through Crysis and CoD4 without issue...

No AA @ 1920x1200 isn't that bad. The higher the resolution, the lower the impact AA makes.

8800gt should be fine, I used one on my monitor for a while.
