I'd like to try to attach a gpu heatsink to the heatpipes of my laptop (without modifying it in any way). I've checked and i would not be applying pressure to the motherboard. Can this damage the laptop?
I did this to a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop with a C2D T7400 and nvidia 8600m gt a few years ago. I cut the fins off, sanded it down to the heat pipe and put the cooler right on top of the heat pipe. It shouldn't damage the laptop as long as the cooler is no larger than the height of the fins. I did this sometime in 2009-2010 and uploaded the photos to photobucket. Lost them after photobucket changed to a pay site.
