Can your WC rig handle "silent mode"

1218 Views 27 Replies 24 Participants Last post by  21276
When I am browsing or working with office apps and desiring some peace and quiet I cut the OC and volts back to stock and shut dowm all fans (except GPU).

Temps stay nice (in mid to high 30's c ,mid 40's c for GPU) and I really like the quiet. Can most do this on their WC rigs?

Not on my i7. The loop gets hotter and hotter. Eventually I suspect the pump would fail due to the boiling water inside. My idle also shoots up to ~65 (thats where I turned the fans on)

My loop is always in "quiet mode". I have Gentle Typhoon's on an XSPC 480 for just my CPU, and I hear rushing water over anything else. Quiet works best for me!

Even when you turn the volts and speed back to stock?

As long as i dont play games my rig can stay going with all fans on low. its dead quite when i do that. i mainly do it when i watch movies

The pump is SILENT. I mean, dead silent.

My 6 70CFM fans... aren't. Undervolting them to 6v, makes the HDD noise equally audible. GPU temps stay in 39ºC and CPU temps in 30ºC idle.

On [email protected], well, the system can handle it (GPU 42-43, CPU 50-55ºC), but by turning them to 7V I have slightly more noise, but 2ºC less on GPU and 7ºC less on CPU.

just turn down the fans to low. plenty quiet if they are properly located

Yeah its always better to over-do the rad size just for this purpose. Crank all your fans down and enjoy the silence.

If I even had a WC loop, it wouldn't really matter for me, my PC never needs to be quiet because I use headphones for everything.

I'd probably see if I can achieve sub-ambient noise levels, but I'd never use it outside of benchmarking.

But when you sleep near your PC and you have it turned on...

I run u triple rad with 3 800rpm fans and it keep my temps under 50 while gaming and that is with my sig rig. It is almost As quite as a Dell and so much more powerful. Next I'm geting a xspc rad with typhoons and see how that works out.

I run my sig rig almost 24/7 and it is quiet as can be. I hear nothing from the pump or flowing of water at all, the most I hear is a quiet airflow but drowned out by the sound of the A/C most of the time. Sometimes I hear the HD working but that is about to change when my SSD comes on Wednesday

right now, im at 4.0ghz, and i have ONE(1) fan on my rad at 1080 RPM every other fan is completely off, except gpu of course, its at 25%. i run like this all day long until i play a game.

temps right now....

Granted I'm only on a C2D, but my raptors are louder than anything else in my computer room. The joys of a triple rad with a c2d is that I never turn my fans above the minimum (5v?) on the fan controller even when gaming. The only time my system makes more than a slight noise is when the GPU spins up after a period of time in games.

mmmm, love low temps @ high clocks xD

Right now the only noise my system makes is from the pump (a dull hum, MCP655 variable on high) and a waterfall sound from the bong.

When I get my naja cooler completed it'll make 0 sound, save for the pump. I may even turn that down so its dead silent. I expect idle core temps around 30-32.

Thanks to all for input on how their rigs respond too being used in silent mode. Since I think this info is benifical to all i give +rep to all.
My cooling system is always in quiet mode
. The only thing I hear is my GPU fan when it is under load. Aside from that, full load temps on my processor are around 36 with one Yate Loon low speed @ 9v.
