Cannot seem to get 4ghz with HT on

So I have an i7 860 with a Megahalem and a push/pull setup.

Lately Ive been trying different overclocks and I was able to get 4ghz 191 blck/21 multiplier, 1.368 volt, 1.303 vtt but only with HT off. With this my loads are about 80-82C.

Everytime that i try to get it with HT on, I have to put some high voltage into it. About 1.4 for me to even be able to test it but the temps are up to crazy numbers. It starts to load at 90-95C when I bump the volt with HT on.

I dont know why my temps are this high in the first place. Im pretty sure my Mehahalem is seated right but reading around I've seen other people with decent temps at 1.4volt.

Any ideas? I would like to be able to keep HT on because otherwise I should have just bought an i5 and saved some cash...

i7's are toasty little chips, and with HT on, they pump out an incredible amount of heat.
HT makes i7's crazy hot.

Just because you can't get 4GHz doesn't make it a waste of money, though. 3.5GHz, or whatever, with HT on is still really fast.

Even with load temps in the 90s? Seems a little too close to that 100 mark doesnt it?

You should be doing everything you can to ensure load temps don't go over 80*C when all four cores are at full load. Others may recommend a lower temperature, some may even say that higher is ok. However, from my experience of running my i7 920 for the past year I haven't had any problems arise.

Wow. No. Not at all. Keep it at least below the 80c mark. You will destroy your chip faster than you can say "oh shi-"
