Can't adjust fan speed on 9600gso

2534 Views 17 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  slothfish
I recently acquired a ASUS TOP 9600gso for folding, but I cannot figure out how to adjust the fan speed. I have tried rivatuner and EVGA precision, neither of them let me touch the fan speed at all. I have the drivers updated so I know that is not the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Do you have the card with the Asus Glaciator heatsink? I don't think you can change fan speed on those.

Which one is that? It looks like a round, copper thing with a fan in the middle.

Still never figured out how to adjust it? That was the ONLY nuisance with those cards.

Take a pic or send a link of your card?

If you see two cables on the fan, it doesn't have a fan controller. If it does, it might just be dead.

According to this pic, you can't control fan speeds; not a 3-pin fan.

Also I think its aluminum that's been painted, not copper.

Awww lame on 2 accounts. Is there anything I can do to make the fan run at 100% all the time, like a hard mod or something?

Yeah I have this card and was overheating so I lapped the heatsink took off all the paint on the bottom and replaced that crappy fan with a high rpm one. Its a little louder now but it gets the job done.

How did you replace the fan?

I believe the fan does spin at full speed all the time. Don't know of any swaps you could do though.

If it wasn't for sloth PMing me I probably would have never noticed this. Thanks to both of you. lol

I was looking at my GSO and it looks like you can just unplug and unscrew the current fan (and probably would want to remove the shroud as well). If that is the case then you could "rig" a much larger fan onto it. You would need a fan controller of some sort though unless you want it to run at 100% all the time. In which case you could use one of those 3pin -> molex connectors and run it that way.

Or you could buy an Accelero, hook up 2 fans, and call it a day. :x

I just removed the fan it had on there with a small screw driver and unplugged it from its power source on the card. I then installed the new fan that I purchased locally (its a 12v fan with .3amps) and I tied it to the heat sink.

Since this fan needed more power I connected it to one of the fan connectors on the motherboard. Worked like a charm.

Sweet, do you remember the size of the fan?
