I'm not sure if this applies to the GPU2 client, but at the moment, I'm rendering a 3D model and the second I clicked render, the GPU usage went from 99% to <15%

Do I need to free up a core on my CPU to let my 470 fold like some have to do for the HD5xxx series?

Any clarity on this is much appreciated

Most rendering programs will nail all of a CPU's cores to 100% usage, the GPU2 client will need some CPU time to control what the GPU is folding - freeing up a core is probably the only way of running both.

I can render with Blender 100% usage and Fold/Crunch at the same time.

And thats without seeing GPU ppd drop, though thats an i7/gtx 480 which is a big difference compared to a quad.

Haven't tried 3ds Max or anything else for that matter while folding.

One thing to try would be to use task manager to change your rendering program's cpu affinity. Try setting it to only use cores 1-3, and set your gpu [email protected] to only use core 0, and see if it makes any difference.
