Hi there, I'm in the process of build my first water cooled PC and just came across an issue. I am cooling a GTX680 and have a blackplate for it too. Now I have noticed that my sound card won't fit with the backplate on the card. It's really tight and I don't want to force the card in there. I do however have a PCI in between my 2 GPUs that would appear to fit the soundcard. This slot isn't quite the same length as one one at the top though.

Would anyone be able to help me on this real quickly?

The one on top that was larger would be a PCI-E 4x lane, and your card will work just fine in the slot between your cards as it's a PCI-E 1x lane. In fact you could even install that sound card in the bottom most 16x lane as well.

Sweet, thank you. I thought I was going to have to take the back plate off! +rep
