Well I said I will never build or major mod another case, but I am neck deep in a new one.
I had the itch and had to scratch it.
The Bamboo case has been sitting for a year and I couldn't just let it sit there-so my tiny little brain started ticking.

Here we go....

Looked like this.

I wanted a water cooled system, this will be my 5th, and the case just wouldn't work the way it was.
This is going to be a Kaveri APU MATX system, but I will run a 6800k/AM2 system until then.
So I made mock ups of the WC stuff I wanted to put in-2x280 rads, fans, hdds, pump, MB, and started cramming it in-tick.
And this is what I came up with.

This is a "I will figure it out along the way" build-lol

MB rotated 90deg counterclockwise, with mock 12" long GPU.
White cube, represents the pump, Rads on each side.
2x140mm fans on the lower cover and 3x140mm fans on the top for exhaust-the Rads will be intake/push.
The power and reset switches, along with a fan controller will be mounted in the lower cover.
The rez will be mounted inside on the top, between the rads and in front of the GPU.

Backside access to the IO ports and expansion slots.
PSU, HDDs and SSDs all hidden.
I plan on cutting out the bottom and dropping it 3/4" and putting a metal mesh bottom, this will give more room for the PSU, HDDs, etc... an the mesh for good airflow.

So far, so good.
But, how am I going to mount the MB, Rads and fans to the case-tick.
So I order me some of this-1/8"x36"x36" sheet aluminum and started cutting.

Well I had to mod the case to make the aluminum work,
bye-bye bamboo.

Hello metal!!!

Still needs a lot of cut and fit and chisel and fit and sand and.....

I plan on ordering the WC stuff this weekend,(Happy Birthday to my wife-long story)
I still need to figure out what to do with the door-Hinges? Magnets?
Still need to find fasteners for the metal to case, fans to metal.
Color scheme, if any.
Sand or Polish the aluminum, Paint it?
URGH!!!!!

....More to come (I hope next weekend)

Thanks for looking.

Well I am working on some stain samples-Bamboo is a PITA to stain.
I tried red, blue and black Dyes, they didn't take very well.
I think I will go with my original plan and just stain it Ebony-A light coat, so you can still see the grain through it.
I need to have it figured out before I order my fans.

Thanks for looking.

Total: $492.48

and

$96.59 at Amazon-

Looks like I know how I am attaching the door.

and

$45.28 at Fastener Express-

So, with the $75 for the first sheet of aluminum, I am $710 in the hole and still need to drop another $100 for the rest of the WC stuff, switch cables and screws-Then I still have to figure out and order the Computer Components. (but I have an idea on those)
Well I figure, once I am done with the case, with the WC setup, case mod and my time, this is going to be a $1000 case, at the very least.

Well some boxes, full of stuff, showed up-

and some screws-

$40 worth of screws (I still need to spend another $30 on more screws)

Itty Bitty screws-M4x3/8" w/beauty washers

So I went into the shop and put in 7 hours on it.

Cut metal (I say metal, because it is easier than aluminum) to fit-

Laid out and drilled holes in the metal-for the screws-

Sanded metal with 80 grit, to give it a brushed look, and attached with screws-

I made a mock up, with the "lid stays/door lifters" and piano hinge, to see how they worked.
Well, I have to tell you-I made some of the mock up out of particle board and after I installed the second lifter, it tore the mock up apart-LMAO.
So, it is a good assumption, that the will work on the bamboo-much stronger.

So, now that I received the reservoirs, I figured out how I am going to mount them-Custom make brackets.
Not sure if I will go with these, or come up with some other design.
This is a figure it out as you go build-lol

So, next weekend, I will order some more stuff, and work on the case a little more.
I still need to cut out the bottom and install the mesh/grill.
Mount the rads/fans to the metal-and cut fan holes.
Make a hdd/ssd holder.
Decide on the res mounts.
Etc....

Thanks for looking

more WC stuff.

HDD, SSD and PSU.

I might be able to work on the case this weekend, but I have a few "Honey Do" things to make

-dimwit-

I had a 103 hour check-23 hours of OT worked out great. (I already have 8 hours this week)

Well I have been busy and haven't had much time to work on the case.
I did get a few more things.

Screws, Fittings, PSU, HDD, SSD, Hinges, Water Block, Temp sensor, etc....

and I knocked out one of the wife's projects.
Shelves for her craft/jewelry stuff.

Just needs some stain and finish.
I am also in the process of making 5 cutting boards.

Hopefully I can get back to the case next weekend, but I am putting a bid in for a kitchen-side job.

I am still in a semi holding pattern.
I want to buy this MB-

But its not going to be released until sometime before Thanksgiving.
I am still deciding on which GPU I want-290x/290 or maybe crossfire 280X.
There is still time before I buy one, so I can do a little more research on them.

thanks for looking.

I'm curious to see what will come of FM2+ and A88X. I really hope they have some really high performance chips this time around, something to compete with say, a 3770/4770K.
