Frankly, I think their "Expert" is full of crap. I have had burned CDs since they came out and they are still working fine. They are right about one thing though, the quality of the media has everything to do with it. Those AT&T disks are total )(#$%(, however, my memorex and sony disks are going strong. I keep them in a nice case though, and dont beat them up. That probably has the most to do with it. Pfft....experts...

Well, for the most part, I think it's nothing to worry about. Leaving a CD in the sun for a long time can hurt the data if it gets hot enough. I've never had a CD stop working because it was old though.

Ive had burnt cds last like 3-4 years.
Out of the case.
being thrown around, scratched, basically i didnt care about them so i wouldnt take care of them at all.
and after a bit of cleaning they work just fine.

That "expert" is obivously a moron. I have disks that were burned 4 or 5 years ago and they still work fine. But I don't skimp on quality. I buy the good stuff not the cheap crap.
