Is the Celeron D 351 3.2GhZ ok for a budget gaming machine, atleast faster than my XP 1700? Can the Celeron 3.2 compeat with a P4 2.66 or a Sempron 3400?

THX!

It should blow your XP out of the water, not sure though. The sempron and the P4 will be even better than the Celeron D.
What games are you looking to play? I'm sure it will run them just fine with your gpu
hmm... so should I get the P4 2.66 or the Sempron 3400...... or the Celery?
I wanna play HL2 CS:S BF2 DOD:S and COD2
Yes it will be faster than the XP architecture but remember that the Prescott (Cedar Mill) Celeron "D" is a far newer build than the Athlon XP.

It's a powerhouse with a 512KB cache on the overclock. This Celeron D core supports SSE3, and for LGA775 models, the Execute Disable Bit feature combats malicious "buffer overflow" attacks. The Celeron "D" 351 also has EM64T 64-bit. It does not however, support Hyperthreading but for gaming that makes no difference.

If you pair that processor with a motherboard such as the Abit SG-80 or ASUS P5LD2 you will have a very fast gaming machine (with the right video card).

get the P4 2.66GHZ if those are your only options
Well, I might be able to get a 64 3000 2.0GhZ for 754, should I get that?
Celeron, even if it's dual core sucks, get a regual Socket 775 P4.
Did you read that link? I would go with the Athlon for gaming but only if you get a motherboard that enables decent overclocking.

There is no such thing as a Dual Core Celeron.

Really?

Isn't the Celeron D just a stripped down version of the P4 D processors, which are dual-core?

Oh, sorry. You are correct, Ropey. Intel and their naming schemes...

Anyway, as of now, I think 1 MB of L2 cache in the 2.66 P4 is more significant than 64 bit.

There is no Celeron Dual core as you called it. There are Dual core processors with 2 physical cores. There are unicore hyper-threaded processors with dual logical cores and there are unicore non-hyperthreaded processors.

Celerons have always been single core non-hyperthreaded processors. One can (if they wish) delve into semantics but the obvious is still obvious.
